Have you heard of LuLu.com? An A4 Color, Perfect Bound (8.264" x 11.694")
300 page book costs $49.53 when you print them one at a time with no bulk discount. About half of that $100 number people keep throwing around, and that's pretty close to the most you'll be spending on a book there. Download, print, and save $50.
Personally, I like searchable computer formats myself. I don't have magic memory powers;-) So assuming it isn't a pdf full of scanned images of text, I'd be more inclined to use the "free" version even if it too were $100.
If you read the articles and are damned sure, cite your sources.
I do that quite frequently here and still get modded troll. I can provide evidence until I'm blue in the face, but it doesn't matter when one is on/. surrounded by believers.
The most damning evidence is: It never happened. The predictions made never came true. That model was created by Mann in 1999. As everyone here knows, 1998 was an abnormally hot year thanks to el nino. Mann took that anomaly and ran with it, claiming we were witnessing the beginning of runaway exponential global warming. Temperatures have only gone down since 1998.
And they better link to peer-reviewed research that supports the premise. Or we will taunt you a second time...
Who needs peer reviewed papers? Global warmers are in denial of observed reality.
I would suggest that the global warming crowd make a track of predictions for average surface, ocean and atmospheric temperatures for the next ten years. They should be able to predict the average within a margin of error EACH year on the way to that goal. If they can select the measurement criteria and firmly state their predictions... then we can observe their accuracy and react accordingly as the reality of the situation unfolds.
Most of the 1421 theory revolves around a map that seems to detail North America in some fashion.
Most of the global warming theory revolves around computer models that seem to detail future events in some fashion. As it turns out, those models are proven wrong through simple observation over and over and over again. Until somebody can find more proof to back up the global warming claim, it is an undecidable as to its veracity.
Now please realise that the IPCC does not come up with new science, it is a UN body that gathers scientists from every national science body on the planet and reviews published scientific papers.
They have a deplorable track record. If I were a global warming proponent, I wouldn't even refer to the IPCC. Let's have a look at their short history, shall we? They were founded in 1988. In 1990, they were making wild ass predictions based on computer models. In 1995, those predictions failed to materialize so they blamed sulfate aerosols. In their 2001 report, they were the ones pushing the hockey stick fraud, claiming exponential, runaway global warming. It turns out that random data entered into that model produced hockey stick graphs. So they come back with... drum roll please... more inaccurate computer models.
Ya don't say? You know what, I'm noticing a pattern here. I mean, I can sit down with Excel and create some pretty impressive graphs, but that doesn't make it science.
I only accept evidence that is backed by peer-reviewed publications.
It's a good thing Copernicus didn't think that way.
I can see this backfiring on him though. What happens when a search for John McCain starts turning up a story about how one side is attempting a political smear as the number one result. I mean it would sort of make McCain the underdog and create some sympathy towards him along with making some potential Obama voters question why they had to resort to that type of tactic.
Would it not also help the McCain cause if you got online and loudly proclaimed you were trying to promote nine stories only to have them buried at 31.
I don't know about pre-Christ temperatures...Also, every climate change that happened the last 10,000 years has been very, very slow and minuscule in comparison to the 0.7 degrees we did in only one century.
I'm still waiting for you to cite evidence supporting your position that they weren't informed.
Where did you get that argument? The creationists? My assertion is falsifiable. Yours is not. Either Apple was informed in a timely manner beforehand or they were hit with this without warning. Unless you can produce information that they were informed, you lose. So I'll get right to proving the non-existence of a warning right after I get done proving the non-existence of a deity.
I guess the blackhats taking advantage of new exploits don't read security mailing lists.
Small handful of blackhats on a mailing list without local access, or...
Every blackhat, disgruntled employee, and script kiddy in a Mac lab handed a one line self destruct script on Slashdot's front page.
Shouting fire in a crowded theater anyone? The asshat editors at/. aren't just being irresponsible, their actions are bordering on criminal. I won't be surprised if they are brought up on charges when this information is misused.
Ten years of network administration in a variety of environments, code contributions to multiple rather well-known open source projects, and service in the Navy's submarine force
And yet, you still have the maturity level of a third grader. Shall I recap our "Apple didn't know" discussion for you? "Nuh uh. Uh huh! Nuh uh. Uh huh!!!" What's your next move? Hold your ears and shout "Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah!!!"
Black hats read security mailing lists. Keeping it off Slashdot only hinders innocent users from taking precautions against the defect.
Taking precautions??? Innocent users are being directed to delete a significant part of their OS with outdated instructions by the helpful slashdot Mods... That is MUCH more harmful than a local root exploit which Apple will close in a few days.
would you feel the same way if this article described a Windows exploit?
Yes, of course. Do you think I enjoy having my inbox overflow with spam because of the Windows worm du jour?
Also, who says Apple wasn't notified of this problem in advance? I'm not saying they were or weren't, but I don't have data either way.
I did and you obviously don't have any information to dispute it.
As a network admin, I'm a fan of full disclosure, which gives the ability to do something about the issue until a patch is released.
Don't be so juvenile. There's a huge difference between being notified on a security mailing list and having the information plastered on the front page of slashdot. A real professional would know that.
ARD = Apple Remote Desktop You can remove it by following these instructions
If you need instructions like this to "fix" the problem, you're a prime candidate for exploitation due to this flaw. Plus, your solution is to delete remote desktop?? And those instructions are 4 years old. WOW, any other great advice?? Perhaps you should nuke the Finder from orbit, just to be sure.
Since it's a local exploit, my suggestion would be to stay off the command line if you don't know what you're doing and wait for a fix from Apple. Also, pay more attention to those warnings about running new applications downloaded from the internet.
BTW, let's all thank Timothy, Pudge, and the rest of the/. gang for ensuring a fresh crop of zombie spambots, shall we? What happened to common courtesy? I thought etiquette dictated giving the manufacturer a heads up and a little time to fix their shit. I guess the ad dollars and attention whoring was just too much too resist. Enjoy your blood money fellas, the internet will suck just a little bit more thanks to you guys.
Ahh, they're just trying to mod me out of/. existance. I've actually read most of the responses to my post and gone WAAAY to the bottom of the page making responses... even those are getting marked troll. So it's an effort to blacklist me. They're just looking at my user page and modding everything I say troll. Can't say I'm the least bit surprised. They do the same on Wikipedia. I'd point you to the original article instead of a google cache, but it seems that has been pulled down too. You can see the page that article refers to has been edited hundreds of times to "cleanse" it of descent. There's so much money and so many careers on the line at this point... if the general public realized it was a hoax, they'd all be ruined. I'm modded up on several posts right now, but they won't forget about me. They'll be modding me down for the rest of the week.
You seem to imply there's a problem. I regret not putting the word "problem" in quotes in my original post. The importance of CO2 on climate is greatly exaggerated by the cultists, and two, they've yet to provide conclusive evidence that further warming of this planet is necessarily bad. I have already covered this in another post though...
So, WhyTF do they need usernames and IP's?
Well, ReadingTFA, I see:
So it appears Google just got served a nice big shovel load of their own bullshit.
Humanity will be reduced to roving tribes of barbarians!! Everyone MUST act now to reduce their Miley footprint!!11One!
Americans are living longer and having fewer kids. Surprised?

I always wondered how the P2P/Napster thing would have turned out if it had been given a better, more descriptive name like: Library of Alexandria
You really are petty.

I'll take just one example from your link... The "myth" The 'hockey stick' graph has been proven wrong by Michael Le Page. The hockey stick model was demonstrated to produce hockey stick graphs with random data. It was clearly sheer incompetence or an outright fraud. But that's not the most damning evidence.
The most damning evidence is: It never happened. The predictions made never came true. That model was created by Mann in 1999. I'll spare you the suspense. The global warmers have tried and failed to predict repeatedly for 20 years now. Practically every prediction they make is wrong.
It does contain news - the news that the current melting rate of the polar ice is the highest recorded.
Yah the highest recorded in what? The 100 years max we have been keeping tabs on melting polar ice?
Not even that. Since 1979. I am also completely underwhelmed.

You can use old motor oil to fertilize your lawn.
The Environmental Protection Agency
Amazing!! That's also my secret one step algorithm for solving a rubix cube! Perhaps there's a link...? The colors maybe?
They've done that too. They've also sued the dead, people who don't even own a computer, and paralyzed stroke victims.
