  1. hmm on Optical Mouse Saves Space in Cellphones · · Score: 3, Funny

When I first read the headline I was invisioning this optical sensor in the back of a phone and you'd move the phone around on a desk to move the pointer. Now that would be funny to watch in a restaurant.

  2. Simple solution (for us anyway) on Where Are You Publishing? · · Score: 1

The US should pass some kind of decree that its citizens cannot be imprisoned in another country under threat of war/trade embargos/etc. Makes sense to me, and would save the state department a lot of hassles.

  3. Re:what? on Georgia Tech Cracks Down on Learning · · Score: 1

It doesn't matter if it's against the rules. Those rules are bordering on impeding some civil liberties... Ever notice that the first person to break the rules is the victim? They get kicked in the ass and the administration says "gee, I guess that rule doesn't work" so they change it, but not before the person who exposed the flaw gets screwed over. I think when a rule like that is broken they should fire whoever made it up and appologize profusely to the student. If I were attending that school, or had a kid who was, I'd be on them like stink on shit right now.

  4. Maybe not for copyrights... on Geo-Encryption: Global Copyright Defense? · · Score: 1

This seems very Bond-ish. Less practical for protecting copyrights and more like it could be used to protect sensitive government data or something.

"Remember 007, the document will be unreadable until you reach Paris..." ;)

  5. Cool but... on Smallest RC Cars? · · Score: 1
Smaller, faster, cooler. It's all great, but the kind of innovation I'd have to see for it to get out of the prototype stage is either better batteries, or more efficient devices that will run for more than 5 minutes.

Not so much a problem with cars, but with RC helicopters and such, it's not so good when the batteries just die.

And what about practical applications? RCToys.com sells at least one of their products as something that can actually have industrial applications. But with just 5-6 minutes of uptime, I can't see many practical uses. I'll be impressed if they come up with something that can go for 20-40 minutes without recharging. Maybe fuel cells will solve this.
