They're called penny stocks for a reason. If a stock is trading at $0.05 a share, a 100% gain isn't meaningful (buying a couple hundred shares could do that)
Consider this: Slashdot is supposedly full of intelligent people. I expect around 0% would buy viagra or penis enlargement pills from a spam that can't even spell them correctly. Yet in every story about stock spam (including this one), around 50% of the comments are people who think you could make money by a) shorting the spammed stock(1) or b) buying the stock and then selling it after it goes up 5% (2).
For penny stocks/pink sheets, shorting is pretty much impossible
The same rationale of every other buyer. You're not as smart as you think you are.
Who is to say that others aren't taking advantage of the spammer's work? If you can buy early and sell a day later, I imagine there'd be a lot of profit to be had.
Congratulations. You're the kind of idiot that loses money chasing these penny stocks and makes the spam profitable. Next time, be sure to suggest short selling to get double retard points.
You're analysis is a few years too late. Everybody (stock analysts, MS Execs) recognized that microsoft is no longer a small cap/high growth company years ago. They've also reduced using stock options in favor of salary and have been paying a dividend since 2003. They've got 6 billion in cash and 37 billion in short/long term investments. They can afford to invest money in new products. The fact that they're doing that rather than sitting around and milking a cash cow means that, even if open office formats/linux/google/apple gain market share, MS will still be making cash.
PHP 5.2.x includes standard json encode/decoding (if you don't mind the limitations). For earlier versions, json.org lists 6 ways to do it, most of which require recompiling.
ajax is a combination of client side javascript and server side code (that returns xml, text, json data, etc). PHP can be used, but it doesn't have any magic advantage over cgi, perl, ruby, python, or any other language.
You forget step 1.5: hope it's still being seeded, hope wasn't ripped at 96kbps, hope it wasn't recorded from the radio. And iTMS has a far wider selection than any tracker.
That's a nice theory, but if true, then Linux is full of "snags" and it won't see greater adoption until it stops being a steaming pile of dogshit. For every company that finds a bug painful enough that they dedicate a team to fixing it, there will be hundreds/thousands more companies that decide linux is a turd that can't be polished. For home users, the ratio is even worse.
The stories they do "break" mostly turn out to be hoaxes, slashvertisements, or stuff that's just plain wrong (eg, see the 10x faster sorting technique story from a couple days ago)./. is better off posting roland piqueel, apple, and google testimonials.
That's a little far fetched. True story: some code in postgresql was found to be covered by an IBM patent a couple years back. (This was after IBM donated a bunch of patents to be free for open source projects, so it was safe to use.) The postgresql team removed the code in question because it would prevent anyone from doing a closed fork.
They have very high standards and principles.
Even without that, you're ignoring the legal ramifications of donating code or paying someone to commit code.
There are plenty of reasons. If you look back at the Bill Clinton presidency, her fingerprints are all over travelgate, cattlegate, missing rose law firm records, missing FBI records, etc. And don't forget hillarycare, the socialized medicine experiment that was responsible for the republicans gaining control of congress.
Another problem is her basic character. Her husband cheats on her, humiliates her, sexually assaults other women, and she quietly accepts it. Everybody realizes it's a sham marriage of convenience (and power). Is that the sort of person you trust?
For tech books, bookpool.com has better prices. If you go to a brick and mortar barnes and noble, they usually have an "annex" section with heavily discounted books.
I remember the good old days when amazon.com gave out coupons like CmdrTaco gave out blowjobs at a jr high school. Combined with a credit card that paid out in amazon gift certificates, I bought a lot of books and CDs. Since then they've raised prices and I've found better uses for my scratch.
PostScript (and PDF) have the adobe problem, but there is a better format that doesn't: DVI (the device independent format created by Donald Knuth). Just as NeXT took PS and made Display PostScript, and Apple took PDF and made Display PDF, the DisplayDVI project has been working on a windowing display system based on DVI. It's still beta, of course, but I've been using it without problems. It includes a rootless X-Window client, so legacy X-Window apps can be run with native DVI apps.

Actually, it only take 30 seconds or so for a beer/soda to settle down after shaking.
I see you're not familiar with MySQL.

ceteris paribus, I always pronounce ceteris with a hard c.

the slashdot html got borked. This is causing some weird display issues in FireFox 2.

And that affect the price of tea in china!! Linux's caching policy doesn't mean jack shit to a OS X.
Your theory ignores binary-only drivers.

just wait until it gets duped in a couple weeks.

, I'll eat my own pussy.
Hirez pix pls!
The ``constant trickle to Linux'' is ESR pissing.
Just add a harvard symbologist, a beautiful egyption female mathematician, and a one-armed assassin for the plot of a Dan Brown book.
ESR... What a cocksucker. Who else sends a press release to news organizations when they change linux distros?
