    Without the GPL, a shameless company can base its own Operating System on the work of open-source contributors, lock it down, put a nice logo on it and sell it with its hardware, calling it "innovation" or "vision".

    TiVo and Android do that with the GPL.

    Oh, back to your question: hit and run is a crime regardless of motive or cause. The police should take his statement, arrest him, and let the defendant and DA deal with the particulars of the circumstance.

    This would be a ban on the police/state doing something, not a ban on the citizens doing something, so there's no need for constitutional review.

    There is a two-term limit but it only applies to terms served after November 6th, 1990. For term limit purposes, this is his first term.

    They can't directly tax mail order/internet purchases today unless the company has a physical nexus. California, New York, Illinois, etc. have classified affiliates as a physical nexus to compel the collection of sales tax. That seems like a stretch, but Amazon filed a lawsuit in New York and lost.

    But even if the state can't collect the sales tax automatically, they can still charge you the citizen a Use Tax. There's probably a line on your state income tax form for it. But people don't know or care about paying their use tax (maybe they're too busy demanding other people pay more taxes?) which is why states want to tax the internet sales directly.

    I believe the idea is that the money is turned over to the States. Within 5 years it will most likely turn into a club to beat them into compliance (like highway funds or any other funds for that matter) since monies are withheld from the State if they don't do what they're told.

    The iPhone 4S isn't available to buy, it's not even available to pre-order yet. But Samsung managed to get ahold of one, reverse engineered it, and found it to infringed on their patents. Impressive.

    Variables in erlang are single static assignment and, as such, immutable. There is a mutable process dictionary per thread or some such, but I've never needed to use it.

    People are still buying the iPhone 4 after 18 months. People are still buying the iPhone 3GS after 2 years. A 3-month lag won't kill their sales (especially so if they drop the price on the iPhone 4 and the new phone (5? 4S?) is a relatively minor update).

    Toshiba had windows laptop/table hybrids 7 or 8 years ago (the screen rotates, then you close it). Check out the toshiba portage m400 (not sure if it's still available) or ASUS R1F.
