As long as I understand, Java is being develope by a group of companies/developers, and Sun is only "leading" that development... so which will be the benefit os OpenSource completely java, when one of its biggest advantages is that it RUNS on any platform, and all the platforms accepted it and certified it?
Geeks, My mom is actually using Linux because I'm living in a different country. So she didn't want the machine to crash and to get a new virus. So install linux a month before i went out home, and after that everything is running perfect. Is just a problem of customization and previous analysis.-
Hi folks,
I think that everyone is loosing the point, What do you need to do with your machine?
If you want to play action games with real graphics and a lot of HW requirements, then choose to go for the M$ Platform (or better a playstation:))... but if you want a good work environment that you can install one time and use all the time!, choose to go for a Linux/Unix machine.
I tried to use game on Linux but it still have a lot of work to do to reach M$ games features.
I tried to work in a M$ environment, but I broke the ctrl-alt-del keys:)
I prefer to drink Mate a perfect combination of Herbs to make you feel great... No coffee no Tea... Just Mate during the workday and Alcohol after hours...
I hope this happens, but How can you be sure?
I really don't think that the X86 architecture will expire sometime... I think that a multiplatform/multichip environmet is the best deal (using Linux and Unix flavors). The open environment is the right deal.
About Alpha, I prefer to think that Alpha will survive in two or three years I will like to hear about a new company based in Alpha server running against Cray, Sun and several others... or who knows... maybe in a couple of years, Sun could buy alpha technology and add it to the sparc platform... who knows??
Cheers.-
Sun is using SSH to access their Servers...
At the same time most of the Government departments in Argentina are Using SSH to access their servers, and I know that many of the IBM Global services projects are using SSH to work from home at them.
Cheers.-

Perhaps, I'm not seeing the benefit here...

The whole program is about a test for their product... so if Linux is selected for the test, it means is the preferred system for it.
Besides, wouldn't be the best idea to test a weapon on Linux, and then run the production on Windows/Solaris/HPUX/etc? wouldn't it?
Cheers!
Did SCO create Mortal Kombat??
They can call me DOGBERT ... nei bother..
