This is a strawman. No one's advocating the practice of copying and pasting entire AP articles. Read the fscking article (or at least the summary) -- the AP is talking about demanding fees for Web sites who link to their stories or copy and paste excerpts with links to the full stories.

Traditional journalists look down upon bloggers, but sometimes the only difference is that one group uses the Associated Press Stylebook and the other doesn't. I think you'll discover that if "traditional" newspapers go away, communities will step in to fill the void.

Yes, it was war. Still is. That doesn't preclude it from being bad, a massacre, or sick, because that's what war is -- especially when you consider that it wasn't a necessary war. That doesn't mean it's your fault that war's bad, and you're right that the politicians should be the ones held accountable.
Which leads us to the real question: When are we going to hold the politicians -- both the ones who lied and the ones who willingly chose to believe it -- to account for their actions?
We're talking the U.S. legal system here. It's not "am I allowed to do it?". It's "am I rich enough to afford taking it to court AND risk getting a judge that doesn't understand a thing about technology".

What kind of desktop PCs do you run there? Brand name, hand-built? Any standard hardware or software configurations, or can people pretty much install what they want? Configuration management is important when you're talking about a large PC farm.

Fortunately, defendants aren't required to prove their innocence in court -- the burden of proof lies with the prosecutor. And I can't imagine a judge that would take this seriously if the prosecution refused to show its evidence to the defense attorneys.

An anecdote: Our office is in charge of creating a display for a local airport. The plan was to showcase some of the satellites we control and some information about what they do. A couple of weeks into working on things, someone from higher headquarters said they were concerned about including information on how high the satellites are above the Earth.
Yes -- some knothead decided that we should omit information like the satellites' altitude, despite the fact that this information is already freelyavailable to the public.
Oh, and this higher headquarters? It's the same agency that's now responsible for "defending cyberspace."
