Im a senior in high school finishing up my third and final year. For alot of the math classes that I took last year, the teachers would tell us to take problems such as the quadratic formula and use our calculators to solve it. What it came down to eventually is that people wrote simple programs to automate this seemingly mindless task of sticking numbers in. I, unfortunately, (or so I thought at the time) had my calculator break due to a software bug, and had to wait close to 5 months for a replacement. During that time, I got very good at doing even more advanced calculation in my head, and remembering formulas since I actually had to write them out all the time.
When the time came for midterms, the teachers wiped the calculators (surprise surprise) and a large portion of my class got much lower marks because they werent familiar with the formulas and/or the topics.
Now, even with my calculator back, I refrain from using it even for the more advanced calculations whenever I can help it. I can honestly say that it has had a profound positive effect on my gpa, and on my understanding of the math/physics topics that were taught to us. Ive gone on to the Physics and Math finals and scored in the top 10 rankings in my province and top 50 in Canada. Interestingly enough, the 3 other students in my school that also are up in the rankings do not use calculators for most problems like myself.
Wow, looks like they have a track record with these things.. Here [google cache]. I know that they take big security precautions for their data while its on the servers, why can they not afford the same in these situations? Maybe its time to stop looking at outsourcing your transportation of customer records to private companies and work out something that will ensure the privacy of your customers data.
Wow, sci-fi fans can pitch in several million dollars to keep a show on the air, while when there is REAL merit in a project, voyager etc. it just goes down the toilet. Yes, before you roast me to a crisp, I know its a government program and that 4.3 million is peanuts compared to what they spend on the grand scale of things, but im surprised that people wont at least write to their representative in congress about this. There was an interesting article that I read in Science Explorations, published 4 times a year, forget the issue, in which they compared the United States to other G8 in science education for primary and secondary schools, and you guys came in rock bottom. This just supports the fact that all of the major scientific breakthroughs will be made by foreign companies and foreign engineers/scientists and that the us will be following them instead of leading.
i was just waiting for something like this to happen.. ahh.. i would b laughing even harder if i could actually get to the articles and mr. nimitz statements..
my goal in life : send invoices to huge firms demanding compensation for everything.. macdonalds: i claim the area between the burger and the top portion of the bun as my own. You now have to pay me over $99billion, or one for each burger with a foreign object placed between the bun and the burnt grub, i mean
meat patty..
Personally im just really sick of spam as Im getting it shoved down my throat in exceedingly excessive volume everyday.. There should be vigilanty action against spammers, just like what they (or someone on theyre behalf) is doing to us.
"If people would only take a few minutes out of their day to READ spam rather than just trying to block it en mass, spammers wouldn't have to resort to this!"
few? the amount of time it takes me to sort through the 70-80 email i get everyday that pass my spam filters with stupid headers that look real already takes me 10-15 minutes. Now if i unblocked all those other emails that are coming through I would be looking at roughly 100-150 emails Id have to sort through. My best solution for my personal email account to the spam problem that works almost flawlesly is telling people to include a certain phrase in their emails.. My filter just checks the email for that phrase, if its not there its/dev/null baby!
Yeah, and if there not breaking any copyright measures on the TiVo, its the same thing as taking a video cassete and recording it. Whats the difference between sharing a video cassete with a recorded TV show or movie with a friend and sharing with people on the net? We've been through this before when the vcr's first came out...
ok, so a student posts a link to an alleged terrorist website and he gets the boot. Now news.com posts a url themselves. Isn't that contrary to the USA Patriot Act? aren't they an american based company?
Ok, it might feel really great touching that great, plastic surface, but I dont think that your "hand" will hold a rocket-launcher or a rail gin very well.
