They are not “very muddy waters”. THEY ARE NOT LAW. Period. End of discusison.
If you find the law, show me it. Except that you won’t, because I know for a fact that there isn’t one. There is only a draft. A draft is not law. A law is law.
Really, if you look at how everything began, that led to WW2... it looks like this: The start of a reality distortion gaining power, and taking over. A mass-schizophrenia.
It may take another 10 years, but this already looks like a mind-virus of the level of the Nazis or the inquisitions.
I just hope we can quickly cure people. (The cure to delusions is to give reality a greater appeal, and make the delusions look really bad. And I mean in the minds of the infected. They must have an excuse to keep their self-respect, and get back into a better reality. So we must first and foremost stop all the “threats”. Like the “economic crisis”, the growing poverty, and especially the easy-to-kill fake ones like the way overblown “terrorist threat”, or the whole Obama fear. I say, the primary target should be to shoot Glenn Beck and close down FOX News ASAP. BUT: Let give them a reason, so THEY do it, or it will only get worse. And then go for the “churches”. They are THE professionals since thousands of years, and the feed on it like no other. )
And a extremely-high-powered radiation source (>1000x that of cell phones, with incredibly high intensity) aimed right at their faces: THE SUN! THE FUCKING SUN!;) Oh, and outside there were at least a 1000 cars driving around.
By the way: I always find it stunning that they think a radiation that is literally 1000 times weaker than freaking visible light, and also not remotely as intense, is what could create cancer.
Hell, if that were the case, then we’d all die of cancer after a short time in the sun!
What the fuck is he talking about? LimeWire is just one client... just one client... for the Gnutella network. There are many many others! Hell, take a ready-made gnutella library and build your own one in no time!
Gnutella is not going anywhere, as it, being completely decentral, can’t be killed. My bet is on TFA being MAFIAA FUD.
And another species will like the mess we made, into which it will evolve.
Call me a misanthrope, but: So what? The only reason we now start to care about nature, is because we start to indirectly wipe ourselves out. I say: Let us. It’s proven to be better for the planet, in the long run.;))
Don’t forget the other side: The species that profit from us. It’s just as bad.
Then again you could call it all, including our destructive behavior, just nature, and let it flow freely...
Interestingly though, that means that saving nature is not the "leave everything how it is" that we think it is, but instead is “acting in our own (best) interests”. Earth as a planet couldn’t care less about we destroying ourselves and taking 99% of all life with us. A couple of millions of years, and it’s back to normal again. It’s us that won’t be back to normal again.
I’m sorry, but I still support everyone who does things properly instead of “quick and dirty”. What Intel did, is the hardware equivalent of spaghetti coding. They might be “first”, but it will bite them in the ass later. Reminds one of those “FIRST” trolls, doesn’t it?
Then fucking fight THEM, instead of us, your allies!
You know how the US always makes jokes about the French giving up in WW2? (Despite it not being true.) Well, you now have to accept that we will make fun of you, because the first thing you do when faced with a threat of someone murdering your children in their beds, is to quickly murder them yourself to “prevent” it. (That’s essentially the position your comment supports.)
Uuum, that list is clearly bogus fearmongering. There is no such thing as software patents in Germany. (Where I live.) And the same is true for pretty much all the other EU countries. The move by EU pseudogovernment to make it law, is proof that it isn’t already.
Think like a programmer: Generalize: Include ffmpeg, and be done with it. Tons of codecs. Tons of features. Works on every OS. And since it’s an external dependency, the whole “problem” vanishes into thin air. It’s beautiful!:)
Didn’t you know? The new fad with Linux desktop environments (not everything else Linux) is to make them just as much a PITA for everyone who actually got a brain, than Windows and MacOS: By setting all the defaults in a way that only the dumbest of the dumb like it. Because apparently because they scream the loudest, they are the most important ones. And ever will be. Even when that whole behavior just lowers the whole Gaussian curve of intelligence distribution every time, creating new, worse, idiots.
I’m not trolling. I got proof that you can check yourself: In a freshly installed KDE4, this can be shown beautifully with Dolphin. Start it, go to the settings, and just blindly set every checkbox to the opposite. And suddenly Dolphin behaves in a much more sane way, where it’s much more usable. (Don’t forget to also go to systemsettings and set the global option from “mousover + single click” to “click and double-click“ [don’t know the exact names].) This also works beautifully for most other things KDE4. And it would also work for Gnome, if the Gnome team would still give you any option to change it.;)
Again: I’m really just talking about the topmost UI layer. The libs are mostly pretty nice and QT is just beautiful internally in my opinion.
No it wouldn’t. Your statement is just plain bogus. As the summary said: There are only two countries in the world with software patents. TWO. And frankly, I declare them the “axis of evil” and don’t fuckin’ care about their “laws”. Much less do I care on them wanting to impose them on the whole world.
But I agree that bundling is pointless, except for Windows, where there is no concept of package dependencies, much less optional ones. The big advantage with ffmpeg is, that you have the same interface on all operating systems. Even mobile phone OS ones.
Also you don’t seem to know that ffmpeg is not a codec. It is... well, it’s the other way around: GStreamer is something like ffmpeg. ffmpeg is a interface to use all codecs trough a common (and pretty good and featureful) interface.
Again: There is no legal issue. Create a dependency on ffmpeg. And for the media terrorist countries, make it optional. (So people can download ffmpeg separately. E.g. trough their package manager. Since every Linux distribution known to man already includes ffmpeg, and hence already would have the “patent problem”. Or in other words: every Linux distribution known to man has more balls than the spineless Firefox team that’s kneeling to the media terrorists!.;))
Uuum, the player uses the standart OS facitilies anyway. On Linux e.g. ffmpeg or xine. On Windows DirectShow. On Mac CoreVideo. I always said that, and I’ll say it again: Just bind to ffmpeg. Then you don’t only get one codec, but ALL. Plus lots and lost of processing functionality. And if you do it right, you can make it optional, and offer the lib separately. In all distributions of Linux, a simple (optional) dependency on ffmpeg would be enough. Which would make the whole “problem” dissolve into thin air. Yes, that’s right: The original Firefox team could do that, and be out of “trouble”.
I told ya: If there are two things that seem to be an either/or choice... I choose both. No compromises*!:)
I’m sorry, but your “joke” is my exact point: Ubuntu is the exact same thing, as doing the following to education: “If people are too dumb, just make the tests simpler and teach them less.” Or for anything in general: “If people are too dumb, make the system less powerful” And what happens with humans, when you make things simpler? Nature invents better idiots. So your Gaussian distribution curves goes down. And then teams like Ubuntu or Microsoft typically try to appeal to that lower end of that new curve again, until... Well, I guess you can see the problem now.
The problem is that they only try to appeal to the lower end, at the expense of everybody else. Especially the higher end. And especially in efficiency. And why? Because of the loud idiot syndrome: Dumb people are more sure of themselves, because they don’t realize all the points where they could be wrong. So they are louder.
But I’m not saying we should hurt or punish those with less intelligence. Not even remotely. I’m saying: Treat everyone fairly. And I’m saying that the whole thing is stupid, since there is no need to make compromises in the first places. If the Ubuntu team would use their brain, they could make it optimal for everyone, instead of only the idiots.
It’s sad that it becomes harder and harder to use Ubuntu, because you have to tune your brain down more and more, to use it... in a slower and slower (less efficient) way...:/
Wikipedia is a successful project. You can read mostly well-written summaries of nearly every single area of human knowledge, and for the most part it's accurate and accessible with nice diagrams etc.
I assume, you being an intelligent human being, assumed a “...for me” behind every sentence. Because else they don’t make sense. Since you can’t possibly know this for all the >6.5 billion people on the planet.;) And this again is the exact same problem that I meant in my above comment. Everything on Wikipedia is by definition hearsay from untrustworthy sources. We only accept it, because it fits our inner model. But most of that, let’s face it, is also based on hearsay. That’s how our society works, and it’s usually good, except for when it’s not.
but when I think about it I know that I wouldn't want to deal with ridiculous one-off articles like malamanteau just because people are having fun dicking around.
That’s the nice thing about my approach. See, the conflict is that 1. you want to decide what you want to see without effort, but 2. you do not EVER have the right to decide what others want to see. (Otherwise, point 1 would either fall, or make you a dictator [like Wikipedia now].) And my approach is the following: Cascading trust relationships. Imagine there being N versions of X articles. Now Jimmy Wales could choose specific versions of a specific set of articles, and call it “Wikipedia”. BUT: So could everybody else. AND: Your set could build on other sets, extending them. Including rules of priority. Like: General base from Wikipedia, quantum physics from HawKing, politics from StewBeef, and these couple of articles should be that version. Or generically: myWiki = articleVersionSet(100% trusted,EMPTY_SET)
where articleVersionSet($trust,$partialSet) = $newPartialSet ++ articleVersionSet($trust-1,$newPartialSet)
where $newPartialSet = $partialSet ++ (articleVersionSet
from (the one
of $trustworthyPersons
with $priorityOfTrustworthiness[$thatPerson] >= $trust
)
for $trustedTopics[$thatPerson]
if (not already in $partialSet))
) As you can see, this means only a tiny set of decisions (min=1) is required, to get your individual Wikipedia. Without telling anybody else what to do. With maximum possible freedom (100%). The key factor is your network of trust. As in real life. Who’da thunka that? ^^ People could dick as much around as they wanted. If nobody trusts them in the first place, nobody will notice. If somebody does, either your friend will lost trust in him, or you will lose trust in your friend. Which counters *any* kind of abuse nicely.:)
LOL. This is like the pope telling scientists that “reality” is slipping away.
My friend Jobs... before you tell others that their reality is slipping away, maybe you should check if you yourself still live in reality. ^^
I’m just saying... no Java or Flash (or in fact any freedom to run what you like) on your devices, “because Steve Jobs said so” instead of what would have actually made sense... that should have been the first sign to bring the nice guys in the white coats with the straitjacket...;)
So essentially they are selling one feature to lower your privacy, and one to guarantee uniqueness (veeery useful for advertisers) as “more privacy”.
That is spin doctor masters’ class stuff right there. Unfortunately they are not actual masters, as it’s in-you-face obvious that it’s fucked up. Should have asked the MAFIAA instead of Glenn Beck for advice. ^^
AI for the infected, GUI elements, etc are all missing,
don’t you understand?
It being possible to implement them, does not mean they are present. The interface that the AI needs to control the infected, plus the inner functions that the UI triggers, are there. But the whole UI layer itself and the actual AI scripts that use the interfaces are missing.
I accused the one of fearmongering, who created the list. Not you. You only linked to it. :)
The first one has nothing at all to do with patents. Copyright is not patents.
The second one is hardware-related.
You fail. ^^
Even better: Support the underlying media layer on the OS.
No it isn’t better, since that would mean you’t have to write your own adapter layer for every OS’s API.
Guess who already did that... ^^
They are not “very muddy waters”. THEY ARE NOT LAW. Period. End of discusison.

No I am not. I am saying FIGHT that bullshit or DIE TRYING.
Yes, if it comes to it, I’ll go guerilla mind-hacker for it.
