The prolem here is that americans have no own culture. just a mix of partly borrowed stuff that became a pseudo-culture... I don't mean the regional level where surely some states have their style. But nationwide.
This is in no way meant evil or trollish... I wish for them to develop an own culture, but this gonna take more time... And i really hope it will not be the negative character they show against the world right now.
Maybe i should start a fund-raising campaign to bould schools in the usa. This would solve most problems by itself... (like ceationism, bushism, overweight-in-front-of-stupid-tv-ish, and of course religious extemism...)
(Last paragraph counts for most other countries too...)

I never go unter 2048 bit AES for encrypted drives.
Fuck the performance!
Performance is irrelevant if you have to make a descision whether your data is *REALLY* secure!
If we forget the facts that - packaging plus medium today are way below $1, - not being able to copy it does mean a loss of an infinite number of copies, meaning the loss of an infinite amount of possible mony saving - and download bandwith is completely irrelevant because they don't have to pay it for classical media then we can go an look for it's REAL worth based on the work - and only the work - involved.
Let's say the materials like packaging and stuff are charged a fair price from the packaging producer reflecting the amout of work involed to transform a tree and some oil and metals into the package and media. Then you take the true production costs, add the marketing costs, and divide it by the expected amount of sells.
Then you'll have the true amount of $ it's worth. And it's you job as a film producer to ensure that you only produce films that are good enough to finance those costs by getting that much sells that the customer an afford it.
The problem is that those companies 1. Want some imaginatory sum called "profit", and *expect* this amount from the customer instead of seeing it as a - is "cumshaw"* the right word? - . 2. Calculate horrendous production costs because of their expensive senseless stuff, cocain and bitches the essentially *need* to live and - what's most important - - maybe because of those drugs - are unable to calculate and see that their so called "blockbusters" are a bunch of crap like 'Hell"plastic"boy and his gay fishfriend' or 'Doom the... ehem... Film?' (I recommend playing the Doom 3 expansion pack for *real* action!;)
As long as they continue living in their dream world they gonna surely and slowly die in a whirl of mad laws pushed troug and crazy DRM systems that let customers run away like from the pest...
Living in an illusion of a democracy that in fact is a economy/commerce-feudalism also does not mean you know what democracy is.;))
but i think poeple shourd get it: Democracy with humans is as unrealistic as communism with humans. the theory of both of them is not that bad, except for one part: They need humans who rule the system.
But they forget that humans are humans. The *only* reason in nature that we exist is that we "won" over all other life that existed. We still do this even if we don't want it, becasue by the hard rules of nature you simply go extinct if you don't do it. That's one of the - if not *the* - basic concept(s) of evolution, no? And now those forms of government expect us to be fair? Pretty unrealisitc, huh?;)
I guess the only thing that will work is some kind of new non-human open-source overlord.;)) Really... new sourceforge-project anyone???
> There should be some standard interchange format for the FPGA data. gcc should be able to take some C code an output FPGA intermediate programming data from it.
Smile! This stuff already exists for years:
You just have to build a library that
shoves "compiled" logic chunks to the chip
uses the FPGA-board's upload functionality as a pluggable driver
I guess VHDL can be uploaded directly to the FPGA. If not maybe stuff like gEDA or similar stuff for VHDL helps...
I am a total n00b in things of hardware design, but i found this in 1-2 hous of investigation and reading via wikipeda.
The problem is that FPGA-boards are pretty expensive... (The least expensive i found was some 66MHz devboard for 150$. The most expensive had 500MHz and a price tag of ~7000$!! [including a ton of golden analog contacts and stuff;])
1. It's not allowed to make something non-tamper-resistant or digitizable. 2. To fulfill these requirements it has to be physically impossible to actually see or hear their media. (Because if you could, then you could take your camera and a microphone and record it.) 3. If nobody can hear/see it then nobody will buy it. 4. if nobody buys it, there's NO PROFIT anymore. 5. If there's no profit, there's no MPAA/RIAA. 6. PROBLEM SOLVED!
I must say i LOVE the nature's style of solving something if it's becoming a problem!
Well for the "rights" in the usa i just say: There are none anymore. At least if you don't count the "you have the right to imagine you actually would be able to vote for your government" or the "you have the right to consume and blindly believe or else go to court and then to hell" rights.
Now i seriously wish that the intelligent americans find something to do against this. I recommend founding a new country *in* the usa. Split the country. West coast and center go to the extremists and their dumbed-down mass and the east coast goes to you.
... they gonna use a fully *compatible* implementation of ODF?? *LOL* Then you really don't know microsoft at all...
As we all know (example: Java), microsoft never had problems "implementing" some non-ms-standards. But usually they just become *a bit* incompatible for no reason and then it becomes a ms-standard and the original creator has nothing to say anymore... Maybe they get sued, but this does not change their behaviour because they achieve to even earn money from it. (You know what their "punishement" was for the java-case: Give some scools "free copies"* of windows and office. [read: hook kids to microsoft as soon as possible. earn the cash later.])
* to me this is a tautology, because a thing that is copyable without effort always is free by definition.

Exactly. Last time i looked at http://derstandard.at/ it hat over 500kb. Now the question is why they call themselves the standard? The standard in what? In new forms of bloating perversity?;)
Wich is only a *recommendation* that exists beause 1. after some time, depending on the amount of baecteria in the food and the amount of air, heat and light it gets, it could be bad for your health to eat it. 2. if you could store it that long, the company would not earn money because you threw it away. (in the case of normal water without tons of bacteria or chemical substances [not noted on the bottle] inside.)
there is another kind of expiration date for stuff where it's pretty dangerous to eat it after that date. this is the case for stuff with much protein inside, because of the salmonellae that spread like mad. examples are: fish, egg-white, some kinds of cake (dunno how you call that cake called "bee-sting" here in germany...)
Damn. I'm just out of mod points. This is SO true that I would give you all my mod points, no matter how many i would have!
BTW: I'm looking for at least 20 designers and 5 programmers who have skill and love game programming/designing but don't get a job. i'm thinking of something like: if we don't get a job we have to create the jobs ourselves. so in fact i want to start a company. well... the last two would be enough, but maybe those creatures that are looking like humans and patent such stuff or allow it to be patentet aren't even in our known rules of physics. so let's patent evilness right away, and we're done!:)
