... but I think he's right on one point: It's probably dumping out a lot more than 5,000 barrels a day. I'll wait until this gets peer reviewed before I start choosing a number between 5000, 200k, 500k, or 1M barrels a day.
The earth extinction event was in the event we set off a nuke to seal it up (as the Russians recommended in an earlier slashdot article) and it opened up a fissure 1/4 mile wide, releasing it all pretty much at once.
Even then, it would probably just make things uncomfortable. Earth extinction from the sudden release of a trillion barrels of oil seems a bit unlikely.
Some of us deposit many checks on a regular basis. It's either this or mail them in (at least USAA provides postage paid, pre-addressed envelopes for this free of charge as well). Or if you went to another bank, you could go to an ATM or a local branch, but then you have to log off of Warcraft for long enough to drive/walk somewhere, and who *knows* what kind of loot you might have missed out on! Besides, that Hodir rep doesn't farm itself.;-)
You need an account at USAA to make a deposit. You need to be in the military or one of their dependents to open an account. You can only deposit to that account with this app. It's not like there are a lot of holes to the process.
Renters generally still pay their rent with checks. That and the occasional random bill from a service company that you get through the mail. Checks still have their place, although I generally pay everything online these days.
Well, their Deposit@Home feature, which allows you to use a scanner to scan them in. Only works in Internet Exploder 32 bit version, which is annoying. But USAA is by far the best bank out there, frequently topping Four Seasons for the best customer service available. I don't have an iPhone, but this is a natural extension to their Depost@Home feature.
Actually, this is 100% wrong. The right of way has nothing to do with the size of the vehicle, but rather their propulsion methods (sails above motors above seaplanes for example) and how they meet (overtaking, crossing, etc).
If an oil tanker runs over a sailboat, there are going to be a lot of very rich relatives of the owners of the sailboat.
Again, for the 100th time, you misread the bicycledriving.org law. It says if the bike lanes exist, bikes have to ride in them.
IT DOES NOT SAY IF THEY DON'T EXIST THAT THEY CAN'T BE ON THE ROAD.
Get that through your thick head. You are wrong. Bike *are* allowed on the road throughout the states even if there isn't a bike lane.
Actually, it's been proven you don't. Especially if you keep spouting that crap about "if there is no bike lane, then bikes aren't allowed on the road."
Seriously, learn the rules of the road.
He's Canadian, and should have his license revoked for not knowing the rules of the road. He even posted them, misinterpreting the provision that said "if a bike lane exists, the bike shall ride in the bike lane" as "if there isn't a bike lane, bikes are prohibited."
But yeah, he's clueless about the rules of the road.
You're misreading the law. It states that if there is a bike lane, bikers have to use them. It doesn't state that if a bike lane doesn't exist that the bikers can't be there at all.
Your drivers license should be revoked for not knowing the rules of the road.
There is always a bike lane, even if it's not painted. It's a bubble around the bikers 3' past the handlebars. That is the room cars are legally required to give a biker on the road (at least according to MN rules). This just helps the car visualize where they are legally REQUIRED to avoid.
Bikers are allowed on the roads. They have just as much right to using a lane as a car, no matter how much it bugs you or you think it's wrong. I know cars hate following the rules of the road (speeding all the time, rolling through stop signs), but at least you can try to respect the ones that allow bikers their 3' bubble. Is that too much to ask?
He should have asked the thief's address and promised to send him the reward money of $500 to it as soon as he can get to an ATM machine. Then when he had the address in hand, he should have left with the joke: "How do you keep an asshole in suspense?"... Problem is, I never think of good lines like that during the moment. It's always "I shoulda done that..."
I agree. Except when your plane gets hijacked. Then the safest thing to do for yourself and everyone else is to sit quietly in the back of the plane and wait for the situation to get resolved peacefully by the proper authorities.
My wife and I went to the store to buy her a new cell phone. The salecritter started to ask her what she wanted for features: bluetooth, camera, text, smartphone, and so forth.
She looked sheepish for a sec and said "What do you have in purple?"
It can be viewed as a trojan horse. If the bill states that teachers should be able to present any *scientific* evidence to support views on the origin of species and life, then by presenting Intelligent design or any other offshoots can be taken to court, where it can be argued that those are faith based, and not scientific evidence.
In other words, to the legislator who is trying to make it safe for teachers who want to talk about ID.... this bill won't have the effect you think it will...
Yes, the enemy's behavior is reprehensible, but that doesn't relieve us of our responsibilities under the GC. Saying that waterboarding a terrorist is ok because they don't follow the GC is reprehensible by itself.
I'm not sure what you mean to imply by the rules impede our progress on the battlefield. Are you suggesting that being able to torture enemy PoW's/terrorists would make our military more effective? Will it help us win the war?
Yes, I served in the US military. We are constrained by the GC whether or not we like it, despite what some people say.
Just because the other side isn't following the rules set by the Geneva Conventions doesn't mean we are freed from the responsibilities of following them. I'm pretty sure we're bound by them regardless of the antics of our enemies. I'll have to do some research to back this up, but I'm willing to bet there is no clause that waives your responsibilities to follow GC under certain circumstances.

Thanks for the info! I'll have to update and give it a try.
And that is sooo much more convenient than keeping a checkbook around.
And the government doesn't want the competition?

Afghanistan was a delivery vehicle for WMDs. ;-)
