I installed Cruft with the os, maybe 9 months ago. I never figured what it does, so it's simply been occupying space on my hd. Now if only there was a simple program to get rid of this old junk I'm not using anymore!
The sig is from a business book: "Rules For Revolutionaries", Guy Kawasaki. That quote is the title of section 1 from the book. Never read it, but there's this new web site called google, and it lets you search for words and sentences on the web. You should try it:)
Is there a copy/paste virus going around? I'm asking because I've noticed a few words repeating. First in the actual story, and now this post above. Is it just me? I'm just asking because I've noticed a few words repeating.
Thanks for clarifying your point. I wasn't saying anything for/against arch/subversion either. In reallity, I was thinking about something Hans Reiser said: "That way, users can continue using the filesystem directly rather than building special-purpose layers that run on top of the filesystem, such as databases and the like.".

So my post was more theoretical in nature. I guess you can even consider it off-topic now.
I really wish slashdot editors would do a piece of their homework. Look, the guy was selling copies of games thru his store. He had 413 different rom images in stock. Oh, and he was installing mod chips for 30$ too, but I'm sure that's now how he grossed 300,000$.
Seriously, if we had a good enough filesystem, there wouldn't be a need for any db. It's only a question of point of view. You mention using standard database tools to manage subversion. What's so wrong about standard filesystem tools to manage arch then? You know, like cat and grep, and ls even. (Please, don't point out that grep isn't a filesystem tool, please).
Well, these have been 3 special years, you must admit. Lots of features were added to what was known as c++ 3 years ago to make it what we call c++ today.
First of all, the point is about not allowing users to install software is a moot. You just you're pc to the network, and nobody can do anything about what sort of softwares you install.
If you don't want people to install software on a machine you control, well, control it. Make it impossible to execute software for your home dir or write to any other part of the hard disk, and you don't care if the program uses the registry.
The festival is to include screenings of the raucous comedy "Hardly Workin' " and Mr. Hancock's "Eschaton: Nightfall," based on the fantasy novels of H. P. Lovecraft. The event will end with an awards ceremony.
That sounds a lot more fun the looking at some dummy players. You see, some people have enough creativity to actually come up with novel ways of using current technology (yeah, I'm calling Quake a technology). This sounds like a very cool venue for new artists to express themselves, way to go!
Thanks, I just did the conversion really quick without giving it any thought. In fact, I even had to move the file after posting here - I got like 200 downloads in 45 minutes or so - ouch!
I got 1000 hits in all for it, and after moving it, only 73 people passed the iq test. I'm impressed:)
And yes, this is probably a duplicate post (well, not this paragraph obviously) - something "happened". Talking about iq...

Probably in the embedded market. That's one reason you won't hear too much about them. Look at http://www.linuxdevices.com for a few examples.
not sure which image you got. I was able to download the 4.2 GiB file and converted that to a mpeg4 (overkill, but I don't have anything to mess with gifs, I just recorded a "playback"). I've put the 400 KiB result here, if anyone is interested: http://tools.waglo.com:8888/codered.wmv if anyone is interested. Oh, you're gonna have to right-click, shift-click, whatever you have to do to download it. Like I said, it's just a quick and dirty job, and I'm not gonna leave it up longer then I have too.
http://tools.waglo.com:8888/codered.wmv for a quick and dirty conversion. I think it's mpeg4 now - did it with windows media encoder. Let me know how well it works. You might have to right-click, shift-click, wait-click to get the video instead of binary goo in your browser. Like I said, it's a quick and dirty convertion. Oh, and it's 400k, little more manageable. I'm only going to leave it temporarely up though.
Sorry John, I was trying to be funny.

Me, I'm just waiting for my next batch of disposable clothes. Can't go outside naked, can I! I guess a phone and camera would be handy too.
I don't know the book either, just did a google search. Maybe the author got it from someone else, I don't know...
offtopic, regarding your sig, you you need vigor, seriously.
What? This can't be! You're complaining about a headline? That's a big no-no on slashdot, haven't you learned already!

That sounds a lot like the Peter Principle. God help us! (I wonder how he got promoted so far...)

If you want to play the numbers game... I posted there were about 60 posts, and I hadn't noticed any mentionned what I said.

I don't know how many of these exist in the wild, but I know someone at 911 who isn't going to be happy at all.
I'd even up that and make it "click here to download the stupid flash ad" - now I'd buy that!

What's the point of redirecting robots.txt?
I agree with you 100%. Let's adopt JPEG 2000 asap. Now let's determine if it's possible, ok?
