Isn't it possible to create the ultimate desktop environment using all of the graphics capabilities of this machine? Couldn't one create a turbo-charged version of enlightenment with animated borders and backgrounds? Taking it a step further, one could create a game where a character (representing you) pulls applications out of a leather satchel and executes them. Poof, a galeon browser window opens in front of the game character. You could then close the window by pulling out your trusty 44 mag and blowing the window to pieces (with all the graphics of glass disintegrating and CD quality audio). Next you pull Emacs out of your bag and compose a letter using speech recognition software. Getting this going on the PS2 is just the first step. With the coming of the PS3 in a few years, imagine all of this done with HDTV resolution on big screen. A truly virtual environment in which one could do "work".
I have a modest suggestion for the name of this thing: The PS2 (or PS3) NAVI.
