Ask your wife if she would rather (you) spend time updating the virus software and removing spyware DLLs, or if she would rather (you) spend time with your children. Check mate.

    Nope.

At the end of the day, I would like to know that an electronic election was made with transparent software, so that the government can guarantee that my vote is registered correctly.

In fact, I would like government work to be transparent, including making its work accessible for every citizen, meaning that the way data is stored and manipulated is transparent, so that anyone can build their own reader/manipulator for the data, preferrably over a long period of time.

I'd rather live in a free country without Microrigged elections, than have two Euro extra while Microsoft runs the government because said government decided to go with Microsoft because it was deemed cheap at the time.

    OTOH...

If you are talking about selecting the cheapest solution as "the solution that will provide the most wealth for the population over a long period of time", then I agree with you.

    Ramblingly yours,

Actually, with over 20 boxed gaming titles in my bookcase, and quite a few more in my CD rack, I quite disagree with your view on Macintosh gaming. There simply aren't enough hours in a day to play them all, and they're almost all very good, high quality, major title games. The price point on Mac iBooks (my primary gaming platform), is the same or lower than for (what I consider) comparable non-Mac laptops.

  6. Re:Who cares, really? on Apple Requires Three-Button Mouse for Shake 2.5 · · Score: 1

To me it is more exertion to always have to NOT press the right mouse button, than to press the CTRL button on the very few occasions that I have to when I am using ill-designed software. CTRL-clicking puts much less strain on my hand. It also allows me to work faster, since I do not have to take extra time every time I click the mouse to make a (conscious or subconscious) decision on which button to press. If the software is not designed for a one-button mouse, then CTRL-clicking is better than to use a mouse with more buttons, because it does not harm my hands. If the software is designed for a one-button mouse, a one-button is the best choice, because it saves time. Apple is not to blame for badly ported Windows games, or M$ bloatware. And in my opinion, they did the best of a bad situation when they added CTRL-clicking functionality to the UI.

  7. M$ in court. on Microsoft vs. Apple's "Thunder" · · Score: 1

In court M$ said (or so I've heard), that Windoze has a 2/3 market share (67%). The percieved competitiors are Linux and MacOS. Now, since the percieved share of MacOS is 5%, Linux must have at least 28%. Since the percieved share of Linux is 5%, MacOS must have at least 28%. Add these figures up and you get Linux + MacOS = 56%, which leaves M$ Windoze a meager 44%. Oh the joy of perceived statistics! :-)

  8. How it works. on Mac Users May Be Smarter · · Score: 1

Higher education, larger expense account, better health et al are correlated to each other.

Furthermore, a person who makes more money will buy slightly more expensive products, if these products save them time. Walk, go by car or fly private jet. Bake your own bread, cook your own food, zap it in the micro. A faster lifestyle gives you more time to spend on making more money, getting a better education, plan health-increasing activities. And so the circle goes.

Most likely this also goes for Linux, Windoze, MacOS, although the monopolistic situation imho makes Windoze much more expensive than Linux, and much more time-consuming than Mac. Another way to state this is to say that whoever has the larger market share can maintain either the larger profit margins or the worse OS or both. You decide. :-)
