I completely disagree (well at least about Enterprise being horrid).
In fact, one can draw strong parallels between the early seasons of Enterprise and TNG.
IMHO, the first two seasons of TNG were rough to say the least. The characters were completely overacted and campy, not unlike a former series bearing a similar name. In fact most TOS fans despised TNG. But then sometime in the 3rd season things turned around culminating with the BOBW Part I. After that episode (and BOBW Part II), the series skyrocketed. The characters became more normalized and the writing improved dramatically.
I see the same thing with Enterprise. I believe the last half season or so has been as strong, if not stronger than the end of the 3rd season of TNG. The Xindi storyline has been excellent. The idea that the Captain's primary job is to stop a device from destroying his home world at any means has proven to be very compelling - especially when certain lines have got to be crossed in order to accomplish the ultimate goal.

I really wish more people watched the series. I really believe the show has a lot of promise.

Further evidence of the diminishing of the gene pool... Back in the day, stupid incompetent people died and failed to spread their less-than-desirable genes. Today, everyone lives, comfortably surrounded by disclaimers, lawsuits and over-protective laws. Case in point: 1 in 3 million children (OK, I made up the number) die as a result of not wearing a helmet while riding a bicycle. Solution: Pass mandatory helmet laws for children under the age of 16. Problem?: When I was child, the kid who lacked the instinct to catch his fall with his hands and/or knees while falling off a bicycle was probably badly injured or killed. Our natural instincts are being weeded out of the gene pool. How about disclaimers for not placing a sharp knife on my genitals? Watch out Ginsu!

Do you have this book? Is it really a good recommendation?
I have the book in .chm format. Requires Winblows to view it. Post a garbage e-mail address (or create one on hotmail); then post the address here. I will forward you the book .chm file as a loaner. Please do O'Reilly the favor and buy the book, when you get the chance.
