Actually I'm starting to think most Republicans wish they could go back to the primaries for the 2008 election and do something to help Hillary. After her tenure at State she looks like a pro compared to most of the other clowns in the cabinet. I think she did a good job as President from 1992-2000 as well.

It's not like the democrats need to bring the country back together and they know it. Johnson's great society has arrived and the Democrats know that from here on out they own all those non-working votes out there. As long as they can keep getting those checks out the first of every month there will always be a Democrat in the White House. It's not a race issue either as I have many relatives of my own that line up to get their checks every month. It's funny because I brother-in-law that used to talk about "Them ni***rs lining up with their food stamps at the checkout." Now he's one of them. He was a real shit bird then and he's a bigger one now. Like most bigots spouting that shit he was just jealous.

I think it highly likely that a lot of it is racist based. I'm diametrically opposed to President Obama's policies but I don't understand the need to demonize him. I keep telling people how it could be a lot worse and they always respond "How? How could it be worse?" When I respond with the fact that Joe Biden is next in line for the presidency I see the sudden look of understanding, and horror, in their eyes. Then I hit them with the fact that when Nancy Pelosi was Speaker of the House she was third in line the invariable response I get is "OH FUCK!" It's amazing how people tend to focus on the bad and fail to see how things could be lots worse. Compared to a lot of what I see in the Democratic party the President is almost conservative.

I doubt it. People like to bitch but the 50 States together are a superpower. Separately they're just little countries. The problem is that the art of compromise seems to be lost. No one wants to meet in the middle anymore. We need some leadership that knows how to reach across these boundaries but it appears to be at least four years out and maybe more. It's gonna be a rough ride in the meantime.

  14. I don't think the problem is paying taxes but the fact that their is no end to the appetite for money in DC. The more they get the more they spend and the more they demand. The rich like Roads and other forms of infrastructure, it actually improves their bottom line. It's the fact that over half the country doesn't pay taxes anymore and the solution seems to be to tax the ones that are producing even more to make up for those that don't produce. I don't mind my current tax load, I can afford it but I do resent any implication that I don't pay enough as more than half my income goes to some form of taxation. How much is enough? I've seen litterally dozens of Democratic politicos asked this question time after time. How much? What level of taxation do you consider enough? Fifty percent? Sixty? Seventy? Eighty? And not once, ever, did they answer the question. Of course we all know the answer don't we? There is no such thing as enough. The answer is MORE, MORE, MORE. They can't say it in the media because then even the stupid would start to understand.

I find that last bit interesting. Exactly which Republican ideas do you consider as right wing and bonkers as those of Hitler. I ask this not in a flame attempt but out of genuine curiousity. As for the original post I find it ludicrous to arrest someone for something as harmless as posting an image of a burning poppy. I do think this is a result of the attempt to squelch free speech by labeling some speech as "hate" speech. Such things have unintended consequences. It's hard to selectively ban speech in such a way as to only allow the speech you want.

I hope it holds together 3 more years so I can cash my 401K out before it's gone. A lifetime of savings and those fuckers are going to cheat me out of it. The sad thing is it's all the fault of the American people who only listen to what they want to hear. This two party shell game is going to end soon and the public will discover that no matter which shell you flip there is nothing under any of them.

  20. Well that works well for the handful of stinking rich fuckers out there. Unfortunately the biggest chunk of that capital is in investment funds made up of people's 401K and IRA retirement funds. Good stewards in charge of these funds hesitate to throw the money away as working people count on this money to enable them to buy food and pay their electric bills after they retire. I don't know if you have any such money set aside but I have almost a quarter of a million dollars in my 401K representing over 30 years of hard work and sacrifice and if someone flippantly threw it down a hole it would perturb me somewhat.

Stupid, you can't read, can you? They aren't investing in anything. The investors are sitting on their money because the economy is so fucked they think they'll lose it on any risk. This causes the economy to stagnate with no jobs created and no revenue to enable the government to pay it's debts or even to meet it's obligations meaning it borrows even more money. Right now we're going down the hole at 100 billion dollars a month and no sign it's going to get better in the near term. It may not be a disaster but it is misery.
