This isn't the first time that industry "analysts" talked down an apple product that promptly flew off the shelves. It's pretty obvious that these guys' articles are not consulted by the customers that want these products. I still remember the dozens of articles I read about how the iPad would never sell. The dozens of articles about how zune would crush the iPod, etc., etc., etc. I read industry pundits' articles because I'm curious and like to hear peoples' opinions but I take them all with a full shaker of salt. Most of them don't really have a clue.
No one likes to set up for one system, put all their resources into learning and developing it, and then have to move to a new one just because MS wants to make more money.
I agree with you on the need for Government investment in things like alternative energy. My problem is in giving blank checks out like happened with the recent half billion dollars green energy scam. Giving any corporation a blank check is asking to get screwed, no matter if it's a "green" enery research project or a wall street bank that's, uh, bankrupt. You can guarantee that large chunks of that money are, at the least, going to get wasted if not just outright disappear. The best thing the US Govt. could do for solar energy would be to start a multi-billion dollar program to install solar panels on all Federal Buildings. This would help reduce the carbon footprint of these facilities as well as providing income to the solar panel producers. It would create jobs and best of all drive down the cost of panels for everyone due to the mass production volume going to a much higher level. Also, at the end of the day, the Govt. would actually have something to show for their money besides a bunch of rich executives being investigated for fraud.
I should have known that first to file didn't mean first to file. It is, after all, legalese. Pray tell, since you are a patent attorney, just what does first to file mean in real english versus the gobbeldy gook that serves for legal double talk
I think that was the general idea back when. The premise was that all government is evil and that government which governs least is the least evil. We have to have government but we have to keep it chained and under control. That was the intention of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights which actually attempted to limit government. The asshats running things now just re-interpret the document to mean what they want it to mean.
The operating system should be embedded on a read only chip in these things. It's ridiculous to leave something like this vulnerable to a virus. It's aggravating to have to change the chip every time you want to upgrade but it's the best way of being sure it's secure. The system should be read only.
It strikes me that during the first two centuries of this country's existence the people's representatives tried to guarantee and assure the people's liberty and for the last few decades they've been doing their best to undo all that fine work.
This is why we have a Constitution and it's difficult to amend on a whim. The founding fathers did their best to idiot proof it but they never envisioned morons like these we have today.
The government really isn't regulating large corporations now. It's helping kill off their competition. Most regulations stifle any true competition much like the new patent "reform" nonsense. I too feel that some reduction in the size of government would be nice. I would settle, however, for it to just stop growing. If it's not too big it's damn sure big enough. If it gets much bigger it'll run everything for real and the corporations you fear and loathe so much will be running it.
No. At AT&T you're not a customer. That implies that they value and respect you. You are actually a consumer. That implies you are there to be exploited and controlled.
The problem is that the market does bear it. Plenty of people have no problem paying hundreds of dollars in wireless fees. I'm not doing it. I refuse to pay more for pitiful 3g service that costs more than my home 12MB service that actually IS unlimited. Unfortunately the market is driven by people who apparently have unlimited funds to provide to the greedy wireless carriers. Screw it. I'll keep my money.
How is this the tea party's fault? They didn't even exist until a few years ago and this kind of behavior has existed on and off since the old "Standard Oil" days. It's nothing new except for the type of technology it's being practiced on. You act like greedy robber barons and lying corrupt politicians are something new. Every single time something goes off the rails people start screaming "tea party" over and over when it's nothing to do with them. The tea party really isn't even a party. It's main focus, such as one exists, is taxation as in "taxed enough already." I sympathize with them on this issue. I'm sure that there are some loons in the tea party group who feel that corporations should have more power to fuck us over but I'd bet they're in the minority there. Give it a rest already.
I don't have any problem with them doing this, unless, they call it unlimited. They should have to clearly state how much you can download before they throttle you. Anything else is false advertising.
I like the flips for the fact I can shove it in my pocket with the knife, keys, change and what have you without worrying about the screen. It's friggin unbreakable, I've stepped on it.....twice. Dropped it a zillion times. It does only one thing but it does it great. It makes calls. I can talk on it. Amazing! And the battery lasts a week to ten days depending on usage. My smartphone toting friends are charging their batteries before the end of shift at work.....well...except for the apple guys.
It has happened before. 8 thousand years ago the land bridge between across the Bering Strait was drowned by receding glaciers. Those damn neo-con rebuplicans! I bet Sarah Palin did it! It was a plot by those racist rich bastards to keep out people from siberia.
You do realize that global warming began about 18,000 years ago? That the world has warmed over 16 degrees since then. It has accelerated since the beginning of the industrial revolution but it was well on it's way to warming up the planet thousands of years ago. The oceans have risen about 300 feet in that 18,000 years. I don't think you can blame the.....well, hell I guess you can blame the republicans for it. It doesn't have to make sense after all.
Well, if man is responsible for global warming, I guess it must have been the dinosaurs that were causing it all those millions of years ago. I'm still waiting for them to discover the dinosaur Fords and Chevys. The dinosaur coal fired electric plants and of course the dinosaur air conditioned buildings.

That works out to 180,000 wells

Carbon dioxide? Don't plants breathe that stuff? I thought the problem with fossil fuels was carbon monoxide?

It's good work if you can get it.

They aren't really unlimited though. If there are data limits then it's limited. I'm tired of the lying bastards calling it unlimited.

Presumably they could start another phone manufacturer. In a few months Finland will need one.

Seemed alright to me. Maybe you haven't had the antidote.
Slashdot has editors? Do you have any scientific proof? I've never seen any evidence of it.
All we need to do is kill off about 5 billion people or so and it should get a lot cooler. Nuclear winter I think they call it.
