For 100 dollars or less you can get a tablet now that's good enough for most of the everyday stuff people want to do on one. Use it 2 or 3 years, throw it away and get another one. I have a nearly 10 year old Mac Pro that's still more than powerful enough for anything I want to do. It's been constantly upgraded over that time and might last me another 3 or 4 years easily. That's why PC sales are slow.

Laptops are probably the easiest to replace with a tablet. I have one I love but it's probably the last one I'll ever buy. I still have a nearly 10 year old Mac Pro that's been upgraded and upgraded for my home office but the laptop sees less and less use.

Trump was elected by a majority of the Electoral College. Those are the people that elect the president of the US. Voters simply choose which Electors to send.

  4. I don't need a case with a jack as my phone has one.

  5. You're full of shit. Everyone that works pays taxes that support infrastructure. It's one of the very few things that the government does that it's actually supposed to do.

  6. You lack knowledge. Commercial trucks pay thousands in road use taxes. Fuel is taxed to provide road upkeep. We all know it costs money, only people in California thinks everything from the government is free.

  7. Under Obamacare though, you can choose to not get insurance and pay the penalty. Considering how expensive the insurance is you'll save thousands. Invest that money instead of pissing it away. Now when you turn 55 and find out you have prostate cancer, go get insurance. No pre-existing conditions problem under Obamacare so no problem. You have your cake and get to eat it too.

  8. Good one!

  9. I don't say Apple can't market the phone in this fashion. I just have no use for it and don't see it as a good selling point. I'm sure a lot of people will love it and some, as I stated, will find a way to work around the defects. The headphone jack is still there for a large percentage of the iPhone7 purchasers. Thus the AC wrongly stated headphone jacks are history which is really what I was refuting. I can be critical of what I feel is a bad design decision because, as you noted, this is a free society.

I don't care what Apple does really. I'm just not paying 800 dollars for something that doesn't fully suit me. That's a lot of money for something that's limited by design.

  11. You think people in rural areas don't pay taxes? Highways stretch from city to city passing through the country. There are over 6,000 miles of streets in New York city serving city residents. A southern county might have 100 miles of highway that passes through serving people from all over. County roads are maintained through county taxes.

  12. The roads in the South were built mostly with state funds and were built to, in the words of one Georgia governor, move food from the farm to the city. Everyone pays taxes and road use taxes are built into everything to do with transportation. Electricity and telephone companies operate at a controlled profit. All that infrastructure has been paid for decades ago.

  13. Housing makes it all worth the risks. I've seen shit holes in New York that sell for a million dollars that would cost 80K in Alabama not including the 5 acres.

  14. Or don't sit around, watch TV and eat shitty food. You're so far from the hospital that when your heart attack or stroke comes you'll die before you get there. That's another issue too. Rural hospitals are okay as long as you aren't too sick. Have something serious happen and your chances are much worse than that fancy city hospital with all the latest and greatest equipment. Still and all life can be good out in the sticks if you like to hunt and fish and enjoy peace and quiet.

  15. I doubt it'll be hard. A lot of people had something cheaper and better before. Obamacare is better than nothing and that's about all I can say for it. Unless you're young and healthy and then nothing is actually better.

  16. I is what I is. ;)

  17. If you just want to talk on the phone a smartphone is the worst thing in the world to use.

  18. Headphone jacks will still be here in 5 years. One of the biggest selling items for iPhone 7 is a case that has a built in external battery pack with a 3.5mm headphone jack. So much for thin phones. People find a way to make stuff useful despite manufacturers trying to cripple it.

Apple and Google are in the best place. They control the software that runs on their hardware. Apple in particular owns an entire ecosystem with no competition. If you want to run iOS then you'll use an Apple phone. End of story. I haven't bought one (I use a Mac computer for video work and Linux for everything else) despite owning a Mac computer because no sd card or removable battery and now no headphone jack. If all the major Android manufacturers end up doing this nonsense then I'll have no reason to use Android. But I think there will always be someone willing to make a phone for people that like these things. I notice almost all the iPhone 7 users at work have the case with built in external battery pack AND a 3.5mm headphone jack. Amazing isn't it? They keep making the damn thing thin by removing stuff and people keep fattening the phone up by adding that stuff back.

  20. I think the S5 is the perfect phone. They should just keep upgrading the logic board, I can't see why anything else needs to change.

  21. Is that still being developed?

  22. I went from an S4 (I literally crushed it) to an S5 Active. Speed wise I really couldn't tell any difference in operation.

  23. I imagine a removable battery might have made the Note7 repairable.

  24. If you're paranoid or a criminal you really want to be able to pull the battery when "they" are tracking you.

  25. I've dropped one in a toilet a few years ago. Yanked the battery out, dried it as best I could and threw it in a gallon ziplock bag with some rice. Pulled it out a couple days later, replaced the battery and put it back together and it worked good as new. The new ones supposedly are water proof though so I guess you shouldn't need to do this for those.
