I don't believe him. He knows the Earth isn't flat, only a gibbering idiot believes that nonsense and this guy obviously has some logical ability to do what he did. The kind of people that believe this crap are good at watching TV and that's about it. He is a Troll. A really good one too.
What for? You can pick up a computer out of the trash that'll leave it in the dust as a desktop. The Pi is for tinkering and hobbyists and teaching. It's a throwaway design that you can blow away and go "oh well." More ram will consume more power in a design where most users are counting milliamps. Most of mine are running off of solar powered batteries. It's fascinating to watch what people can find to use them for. It reminds me of my early days of computing when it was more a hobby than anything else. Computing can still be fun.
You know, he could have gone thousands of miles higher in a hot air balloon. In fact, he could get one like Alan Eustace used to set the record for highest altitude jump. That was 135,000 feet. Low Earth Orbit is 380,000 feet or so. If he want's that he'll need a hell of a lot better rocket.
While I'm generally a law and order kind of guy who thinks criminals deserve to be punished I find 99 years for what this guy is accused of as incredibly heavy. A lot of these computer hacking crimes especially have penalties that are ridiculously draconian for the level of harm done. I actually don't blame the UK, the guy was looking at a death sentence for hacking.
I never use my phone for anything I want private. No banking especially. I don't have a FB account but I do have twitter but had to take the app off my phone. I'm not really especially paranoid but a lot of these apps want to just about take over your phone. I get tired of struggling to make them behave after a while and just delete them. There's no way I'm going to use android for anything I consider sensitive though, I have no way of getting rid of the malware my carrier installed without putting a custom operating system on it and I just can't be bothered when it's easier just to use my hardened computer.
If a guy kills people by planting bombs for no reason other than he's just out for kicks, is he a terrorist? Usually when we say terrorist we mean someone who is trying to strike fear into society with an agenda in mind, usually political. I don't know what this guy's politics is but it seems he may just have been crazy. Or maybe he did have something driving him but if so I haven't heard of anything official. Still, a killer is a killer. I don't care why he's killing, he needed to be stopped. Call him anything you please as long as he's dead.
No, they would not have. These types of accidents are routinely written off as just that. People tend to look straight ahead and see what they expect to see. This is why I taught my children to look both directions before crossing the road. I taught them that drivers most likely wouldn't see them because they usually don't. It's unfortunate that autonomous cars are just as bad as humans.
And yet if a human had hit her they wouldn't have been judged to be at fault. Over 4000 pedestrians get killed and another 50,000 injured every year and many of those are because of their own error. The real question here is would it have made any difference if it had been a human driving the car. Most likely not. I personally have barely avoided killing an individual running on the side of the road in the dark. I managed to miss them by 2 or 3 feet and spent the next few miles running 20 mph below the speed limit looking for more fools running on a highway before dawn. Then I realized that I was going to kill someone else as impatient rush hour traffic blew by me in unsafe passing areas. Some people seem to have death wishes.
I worked with a lady who killed herself and her child because a cat ran in front of her and she swerved to avoid it causing her to lose control and roll the car. The person in the other lane saw it because they ran over the cat. The irony was overwhelming. I'm pretty sure the SD car would have motored on.
I keep a windoze box just for stuff I can't do on Linux. I don't connect it to the internet, I never do any business on it, it's just for a handful of programs such as the programmer for my car's computer. You could build a PeeCee just for gaming and it wouldn't matter that they were spying, there'd be nothing for them to see.
Actually CNN is bleeding money so badly I think they could be had for cheap. And they're already anti-American and pro-Communist so they don't really need to change the format, they could probably keep everyone there with the exception of maybe Jake Tapper.
There will never be a perfect system. Over 4,000 pedestrians are killed each year by cars and over 50,000 injured. If the standard is to NEVER hit a pedestrian then there will never be self driving cars.
I dug up a fire ant colony once when I was a kid. It's amazing, the Queen was almost 30 feet away from the mound. That pile of dirt is just that, where they put the dirt. I had a spray bottle of Chlordane that I had mixed up (instant death and now illegal) that I used to keep them from eating me up as I dug down the tunnels until I found the main nest. Interesting and informative. I discovered that when you pour poison on the mound they just dump the dirt somewhere else. The Queen never has to move. I use a bait now, it's pretty effective. I was the type of kid that was always wondering about things, nearly killed myself on multiple occasions.
My first computer had 64K of RAM and I did actually do some soldering on it. Most of the chips were socketed as well.
Duh! My bad, I meant to say feet, thousands of FEET higher. It's late, that's my excuse.

Ack! Wrong link. This is the right one. Damn I hate when I do that. https://shift.newco.co/you-don...

He could use propane for the firebox. It might work a little better.
What's the fun in that?
I installed a 24' diameter pool one summer. I had to flatten a 24' circle of it so at least that much is flat.

He managed to not kill himself. That's actually pretty amazing. I know he's crazy but he does seem to have some skills.
And lo and behold here's the easy way to do it. https://arstechnica.com/inform...
I wonder if you can store encrypted files on Drive? If so just email the key to the person you share it with.

I don't eat lobsters either.

Squirrels are just rats that live in trees.

The Bible says worldly goods aren't important.
