You're only half right. Sony doesn't charge you for every game individually. Many PS2 games dont require any monthly fee. Socom, Midnight Club 2, ATV Offroad Furry 2. The only games I know of that charge you for online play are the MMORPG's, which makes sence. Its exactly like the PC model for online play. You dont pay a monthly fee to play Half-Life online, do you? But you do for say, Everquest.
Unlike the Xbox where you have to pay a monthly fee to play ANY game online. Wether or not it is only 1 flat rate. You have to have live to play online.
If sony plays this right, esp. with future support from EA's sports line. They can totally blow away Xbox Live IMO. Cudos for including support for the headset, voice chat is the "killer feature" for games I think.
I'm not a huge fan of the xbox myself. But these new features sound rather impressive. However just off the top of my head I can think of a couple potential problems.
What happens if some spammer figures out how to send you messages as invites? I hope they would give you the ability to turn the features off. I would hate to be really into a single player game to have a message box pop up and snap me back to reality.
Or could this possibly lead to ingame commercials / advertisements? Besides the fact that they could gather info on what you're doing with you're xbox and gear them directly at you. It doesnt seem like it would be that hard to popup an ad for something durring a load screen. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried.
You should seriously pick up the second game. It's amazingly good. And it also has the fog and radio thing going on. I actually like it better then the first.
