You're right about that, but in my opinion major compatibility issues are not acceptable between service packs. Radical changes should be made between major versions.
Perhaps you should read the Nvidia FAQ? This topic is covered. From what I can tell, they don't use the GPU in the traditional way, they just use it as a co-processor.

I allready migrated my domain server to Windows XP. I can recommend it.
that's a brilliant solution when you consider the heavy use of system("rm ..."); in packages like samba, etc.
