    "nerd humor" :: "blackface minstrals ...it's analogous...they share characteristics which are relevant to the discussion at hand...comparing the two is different than **equating** the two!

    it is using the same context of *superiority* on behalf of the joke-maker and person being mocked...it's the same **form** of humor

    that context of superiority is why people claim it is "anti-intellectual" and I agree...

    smart people come in **all personality types**

    there's definitely a parallel between "blackface" mocking & the kind of "geek humor" employed by the show

    I love the concept of the show: Sitcom about everyday life of young physics PhD...sounds like a good premise

    In execution...damn...i'd prefer an execution to watching a whole episode of "Big Bang Theory"

    1. afore mentioned unfunny mocking/reinforcing dumb stereotypes
    2. laugh track (these annoy the living crap out of me...."hahahahahha"....)
    3. superficial mentions of science ephemera intended to pass as actual realistic dialogue

    TV can be so much better than the show...hell the main actor is a great actor...the material is atrocious and unwatchable

    but that truth in no way, IMHO, makes this true:

    They *do* understand it.

    they can both misunderstand **and** be trying to kill it...that's my whole point...

    this "charge per screen size" ridiculousness shows that even in their attempts to kill it they fundamentally, still misunderstand digital technology

    the greater point is, if they *truly* understood it, they would actually profit more by fully embracing it!!!

    My question: When will we see a scalable local/organic logistics solution for delivering food to a large metro area? Ex: The size of Denver...we see stories of "innovative tech solutions" all the time here on /., but usually they are limited to one "green" building, one research team's "urban farm" concept, one restaurant chef applying these in one restaurant in Brooklyn... I'm asking when will we see one of those solutions applied at scale? I ask because in my mind that is the threshold or 'tipping point' in the industrial food situation.

    Media bigwigs simply **do not understand the internet and digital technology**

    Over and over, through things like DRM, their marketing, lawsuits they file, companies they back, the music/film/TV industry shows the faults of their business model.

    Where does it all end? We can already get any "content" free virtually instantly (to watch new TV shows online you have to wait depending on your time zone)...artists are using non-standard channels more than ever...whole genres of music have developed that are entirely outside mainstream media marketing...

    Do these companies just die ridiculously slow deaths?

    and you can cover your ears and say "la la la" all day, but **paying teachers what they deserve** (an order of magnitude more) is the way our economy has always shown the value of a position

    simple/complex is different than easy/difficult

    the solution to our education woes is simple...but that doesn't mean it is easy! first we have to shut down morons like you forever!

    Firefox's bookmarks system is infinitely better than Chrome's "pile in the corner" system, but i am one of those that has 150+ tabs open at the same time on occasion and on my machine FF just can't handle that, only Chrome

    I used to use Camino...**sigh**

    As a former teacher, the problem is that people want to spend money on ***EVERYTHING*** other than what will help educate children: public schools with the highest-paid, best trained teachers in the world

    I want to end the notion that young tech founders need to "grow up" or find a "grey hair" to actually run their business.

    It's bullshit and ruining our industry.

    I'll be the *first* to admit that the techies who make the systems that define new awesome products/services are not trained or experienced in running a high finance business...that's well known

    The dispute comes in the **fix** for the above problem.

    Hiring some dipshit as a figurehead for investors...that addresses absolutely **none** of the **original problems**

    When tech companies need to hire businesspeople, they need to hire businesspeople that are as innovative and progressive as the engineers, not someone to "hold them back"

    What happens instead is that a new, user-centered company becomes spoiled by typical US MBA-type heirarchal capital hogging, data selling, evil corporation.

    There is a 3rd way! Just say "no"!

    here's how I know this:

    1. 'just search' Larry Page wrote the original algorythm for search indexing...that's it...that's why we *all* used google over webcrawler or yahoo when it came out...it was *just search*

    2. Brin's relationship with current Yahoo CEO Marissa Meyer. She was his girlfriend and spent millions of Google's money to justify her existence, then she hired her own PR team to get her a new bigger job...she didn't do *shit*...her title was "main page designer"...are you laughing? do you remember google.com's main page for about a decade? yeah just a logo, search field and two buttons

    3. Glass, Google+, Google Wave, and maps redesign...it's clear now that Google has no idea how to make new products people want to use...and when they **do** Forrest Gump their way into a cool new thing (Wave) they cancel the project

    4. this quotation from TFA:

    Page had outlined a plan to scan all the world’s books and make them searchable online, but somehow no one was working on it

    why??? b/c of...idk...it's the most egregious copyright violation in computing....even bigger than a service like Napster

    Page is a good engineer...Brin is an airhead....they stopped sticking to the knitting long, long ago
