Duke is a GOP-run money machine....going back 100+ years....Duke Energy has the monopoly in the region....Duke family made their money in slave-labor tobacco farming originally
I tend to think you are, because the attitude of "just suck it up" in the face of corruption and mismanagement...or just bad business...it's ruining our industry.
We absolutely should not "Suck it up"...I think you'd agree but I'm wondering...
why, for years here on/. every discussion about using media on a computing device...**every time** some joker has to chime in with "it's not legal"
according to the DMCA it **is** fair use to give a file to a friend...the Federal Government doesn't define "friend" so **anyone** can be your friend, even if they are just a link from megavideo or one peer in a bittorrent
when people say "but it's illegal" what they really are saying is "the lawmakers in this country aren't tech-savvy enough to make proper laws, so I'm going to point out that technically downloading files could be considered a violation every time the subject comes up to draw attention to myself"
whoeverthefuck is downmodding my comments on this thread should explain themselves b/c this comment and my original one in this thread are NOT TROLLING or FLAMEBAIT
I'm just not trolling...my comments have a point that can be falsified or debated...yes I use aggressive or colorful language but i'm not mindlessly arguing...
my points are coherent and consistent....this is bullshit!!!
I don't believe we need "smaller government" as a guiding principle but I'd be strongly in favor of eliminating all kinds of government expenditures on defense, corrections, redundant criminal justice agencies (as you mentioned) etc. etc.
I think we should end the CIA and FBI completely, and re-organize along function...then if the gov't wants they can have ***one*** secret org...DIA, NSA, CIA, FBI, Homeland Security...seriously it's criminal.
The supreme court thing is interesting...I'm kind of conservative in this area in that I prefer to leave our system as originally intended when possible, but I can see an argument for that.
same problem, AC...you just inserted a new word into the space
define "imagination" in a way that is consistent and usable for scientific research & comparison!
the problem is, you're trying to use the same words for **human mental processes** as your are for animal behavior
superficially they are similar, but only superficially...this whole thread boils down to that premise: these researchers (and AI researchers) are projecting human behavoir onto significantly less complex behavior
This is all crazy stupid wrong. The only thing "new" here is the term "3D printing" itself.
hell yeah...I can't stand this "maker"/3D printing hype bullshit.
it brings out the worst of the breathless, crazy-eyed, crack-headed PR & marketing drivel that is ruining our industry...
look at the breathless "futurism"-style description of "what we'll do" in the future!
So perhaps 3D printing won't alter our old habits that substantially. We'll demand locally made kitchen mops, but we'll still get them at Target. We'll acquire a taste for craft automobile tires, but we'll obtain them from some third party that specializes in their production
The people who write this stuff are idiots.
I appreciate that they are in a round about way helping to promote our industry, but it doesn't stop there.
People believe the hype. Then they expect the products to deliver on the ridiculous version of reality in the fantasies of the Marketing idiots who put this shit together. It's a vicious cycle of idiots misunderstanding technology and telling things to each other.
We in the tech industry need to get on top of this crap...we need to call out PR idiots...and get them the hell away from cameras or a microphone or twitter account
I love how you can type and type and type trolling comments but you seem to run away when the discussion progresses.
Every policy issue in the US today, if you list it then research each party's position, shows Republicans favoring a small Oligarchy over good governance. Democrats are a big tent party but the people who are trying to actually be competent legislators are **all democrat** right now.
I asked you to list some issues & the policy position & you **cant do it**
When you're typing your next response, just remember, every letter you type, if its not talking about policy and specific votes it's just trolling....
That study and many like it examine **instinct** as the mechanism for this behavior...they do not **in any way** examine bird behavior in terms of "understanding"
So until I have a definition of "understanding" that is mutually exclusive of instinct & other well understood animal behaviors...and relates that to the human concept of "understanding" this research is claiming something that is not supported by evidence.
trading places!
its completely legal....they obey all takedown requests
Duke is a GOP-run money machine....going back 100+ years....Duke Energy has the monopoly in the region....Duke family made their money in slave-labor tobacco farming originally
It touches *every part of their organization*
Look at Duke's basketball team...
It's all about **Duke** getting more money.
hey Rob, are you being sarcastic?
I tend to think you are, because the attitude of "just suck it up" in the face of corruption and mismanagement...or just bad business...it's ruining our industry.
We absolutely should not "Suck it up"...I think you'd agree but I'm wondering...
want to talk politics? want to engage in productive discussion?
don't troll and blast out rhetoric...it's a shell game
look at **policy**
look at how each party votes...**virtually every policy** the GOP supports is a gift to Oligarchs...ex: Net Neutrality
democrats are the only party trying to be a competent, functioning polity...
if you disagree, **list a specific policy we can check**
why, for years here on /. every discussion about using media on a computing device...**every time** some joker has to chime in with "it's not legal"

just stop...forever...
there are a ton of **free** streaming sites that just host links...
I watch all shows the day they are released
free-tv-video-online.me/
watchfreemovies.ch/
tubepulus.me
many others
wrong...more empty counterpoints...***that's not a national policy issue***....we cant check how the GOP voted on that
you still haven't made one coherent point...you can only troll
name a few national issues & lets look at how the GOP votes on them
on virtually every issue the GOP is wrong
all you have is ad homonym attacks
you **cant actually debate your beliefs**
you just make empty counterpoints and attack the person making you look bad
how do you feel about the fact that you can't examine the policies you advocate in action right now?
you were asked to back up your rhetoric w/ actual policy and you cannot
what's it like to hold that level of cognitive dissonance in your head?
No I didn't.
If I had "won" you would actually engage in discourse and ***changed your mind***
I used to be like you...my mind was changed...you can adapt your thinking as well.
whoeverthefuck is downmodding my comments on this thread should explain themselves b/c this comment and my original one in this thread are NOT TROLLING or FLAMEBAIT

hey DaMattster interesting comment

I'm a leftist/libertarian
You're a troll...you're invited to the discussion when you want to talk about...***SPECIFIC POLICY***
we can look up who voted for what...you know that right?
name a policy & it's easy to test my theory about Republicans virtually always voting the wrong way on policy issues
until you do that this discussion is over
here we go again
"intelligence"->"thought"->"imagination"->X
same problem, AC...you just inserted a new word into the space

it is only **superficially** similar!
When I say "Republicans" I mean the people who vote against Net Neutrality...
the same ones who deny Climate Change, try to make abortion illegal, always vote for tax breaks for the rich, start wars to increase personal profits
those people
just name a policy, any policy, and it is **always** Republicans who are voting to enrich Oligarchs and further enslave everyone else
seriously, if you're still confused, just **name a policy** and it is easy to discern which are Republicans
That's a tautology.
**NOW** everything hinges on your definition of "thought"
What is "thought" in your nomenclature?
How does "thought" differ from "understanding"?
Are you the first one to make this distinction?
I don't want/expect an actual answer. I'm asking to point out the ridiculousness of the statement.
Still waiting for some actual discussion.
Why should we "trade" two things that benefit society?
Also: who are we trading with?
Republicans?
I haven't looked, but I will wager +10 internets that the people behind these policies and this national movement are **REPUBLICANS**
Who else would be against POTS and Net Neutrality?

Darmok and Jalad, on the ocean!

is it complex innate behavior that evolved or "understanding"?
what is the difference?
Look at the elaborate nests of the Bowerbird: http://ngm.nationalgeographic....
Does that bird "understand" structural physics & bird mating behavior and "choose" based on its "understanding"?
No. According to this study: http://www.sciencedirect.com/s...
