    nice...was going to post this but I wouldn't have explained it as well...

    honest quesiton: do you think what you described is commonly understood among physicists? It seems to me, and I of course could be wrong, that alot of stuff I see on /. is conflating what happens *on the event horizon* with the actual black hole itself

    I even got into a discussion with the editors of the Black Hole wiki...the first sentence is the maxim "BH is a region of space from with nothing, even light, can escape"

    sexism is **a problem for everyone**...it is *not* a singular behavior but an expression of selfishness & narcissism

    if a team of coders has one woman who endures sexist comments & actions there is one *victim* but ***ITS A PROBLEM FOR THE WHOLE COMPANY***

    In fact it's our whole industry.

    And this doesn't even touch male/male or female->male sexism.

    She is *not* being inflamitory...she is using careful language.

    Some have accused her of using inflamitory language to describe non-sexism...others have said she should have "spoken up sooner" citing her tweets from her first days at work saying she liked the job

    If she had to deal with this because she is female, if people treated her differently and if there are persistent problems for women then it is sexism. If not it's just a crappy place to work full stop.

    So it's either sexual harrassment OR just a crappy place to work???

    Not a chance, AmiMoJo...both go hand in hand...sexism in the workplace is a **symptom** of a greater problem...it's **one way** unprofessionalism can be expressed. These things do not happen in compartmentalized little spaces...it's a sign of institutional rot.

    This woman was an **engineer** she's one of us. She obviously is trying to use careful language to not seem inflamitory...if anything, she is ***downplaying*** the level of sexism in her workplace...like a humble geek/engineer would!

    from TFA:

    Horvath told us that she “participated in the boys’ club upon joining,” but when her “character started being discussed in inappropriate places like on pull requests and issues,” the situation changed.

    I object to the notion that because she sent tweets, when she *first started working* about how she liked her job, that means we should some how be critical of what she is saying now...things change at a job after the first few months, everyone knows this.

    i'd have to actually use the system (i live in pdx) to know if the tech-busses clog traffic too much, but again...this seems like a legit attempt at a fix

    Where does Snowden's redemption lie?

    hmm idk busygary...I've thought about this & i hope he's in a position where he can exchange information for some kind of reduction of charges to misdemeanors here in the USA...does the federal government even have misdemeanors? like some kind of "misuse of government property" and get a suspended sentence & the crime is gone in 5 years kind of thing. That's what I'd hope could happen.

    Can he attempt to buy his reputation like Gates or Carnegie?

    b/c of how I view this, he's really fighting for his personal freedom right now

    Are public events like SXSW that currency that he will spend on it?

    i think this was a PR/propaganda tactic (a new, evil but not illegal combination of the two: PRpoganda)...basically whoever is manipulating him scheduled the SXSW thing b/c they thought it would help somenow...idk...anything to get him free & not in prison

    I really don't want him in prison *unless he's done stuff we dont know* of course...too many potentially good people in prison

    just because **on paper** there are **theoretically** fewer cars (you assume they wouldn't carpool or take public transit or bike/walk)

    so you're theory is blown right there b/c your only evidence is conjecture

    the busses could in fact cause **more** traffic problems by **disrupting traffic at the bus stop**

    if you've ever been behind a city bus on a busy two-lane street, you'll know quickly that line forms of cars trying to go left around the slow, often stopping bus

    public transit is a **balanced system**

    this is abuse of the property & public right of way

    ****taxi cabs can't just sit at the bus stop in a line...it's against traffic laws....Google must obey the same****

    Google should get permission and pay or be denied access.

    Sociopaths can donate money to charity when it helps their tax burden.

    Bill Gates didn't himself do any work except public appearances...he's a **Billionaire** you don't get points for making charities to solve well-known problems that also promote your company's products

    Gates **should** give his money to charity...the fact that he does **the bare minimum** to charties that spread his products to new markets...and gets a **tax write off** doesn't make him not a sociopath

    Gates is an evil sociopath.

    Snowden was a dupe. He was blackmailed...and manipulated/handled by journalist Glenn Greenwald (who was **supposed** to protect his source, even from himself if necessary). As for now we can only guess at his original motivations, but I tend to think he had a sort of condescending desire to show people "how they are sheeple"...so theoretically we could round up to "whistleblower"....**maybe**

    Right now, Snowden is essentially in prison in Russia.

    Behave accordingly.

    browsing the comments you seem to be in the minority...most of the posts on this article go a step further than you and **admit the dont' like it**

    it's funny to note how different commenters qualify their comment in support of the US government **controlling the internet**

    let's remember this moment...

    as soon as an article is posted about a **domestic issue** the trolls come out in droves....comment after comment....endless discussions between "libertarians" vocally opposing **anything** the US government does and their detractors.
