Yes, I've had that bug, but never on my laptop. It was about two years ago. A week later the NV drivers were updated and the problem was no more. My laptop is only about a year old, and I've played many a game on it at LAN parties and such.

Also, in Win2K and XP, the selection rectangle has a filled in center that is alpha blended, if the video card supports it - it is done in hardware.

The only problems with that are upgradeability, cost, and heat. It is not very cost effective to put a GPU in with the CPU. If the GPU and CPU share the same space and RAM, then all your RAM will need to be the fastest stuff available. IE very costly. The other factor is if your GPU and CPU are on the same chip, then you can no longer upgrade one and keep the other. Having two chips, close together could potentially solve that problem, however. Lastly, GPU's put out large amounts of heat, as do CPU's. Having them close together could prove disasterous unless some new cooling method is found.

I used MyIE for a while. The main gripe I had was the interface was huge and obnoxious. I couldn't find a skin that I liked, ie one that had small buttons and minimal space requirements. A couple months later I learned about AvantBrowser. It's basically the same, but allowed me to remove a lot of the buttons I never use and doesn't have helper bars all over the place. I wonder what percentage of the population uses tools such as these.

You can already do this, that's why there's the FX 5200, 5600, 5900, and then an Ultra version of each. ATI has similar product placings.

Replacing the GPU is not as easy as it was back in the day. Video cards have a lot more going on now, just look at the fabrications. You'd have to replace the whole board for it to work properly. Otherwise you end up with a new bottleneck, a video board that can't handle your GPU. Then we have to bring in smaller and smaller processes being used and it complicates things even more.
