Sierra would kick anyone while they're down. Vivendi (who bought Sierra games a while back) pretty much ruined all the goodwill that Ken Williams and his crew built for the company over the years. Their adventure game division is nonexistent despite having a wealth of classic titles they could revisit (Kings Quest, Space Quest, Gabriel Knight). I've no doubt they'll screw up LSL (my least favorite anyway).
I'm surprised they're making a sequel. I thought that the first game didn't sell well to warrant one. But I'm glad it's happening because the first game was very cool.
I think over time this could be a great franchise. I can totally see this evolving from the Silver Age of comics into the jaded, morally-complex 80's era (personified by the X-Men). But the first game was great for its corny dialogue and the black-and-white morality of the characters.
I think more people were upset with EMI because it just wasn't as good a game as Grim Fandango. I think there were more problems with the interface in EMI because items were less accessible than they were in Grim.
Anyway, it seems silly to be critiquing a game that has barely been started and is still two years away. Let Ragnar do the game then we'll get our adventure-purist hands on it.
As great as Grim Fandango was, I'd hate to see a sequel. I don't think it can be improved upon (interface excepted). Of course, if Tim Schafer ever gets his excellent new game Psychonauts out there, we might be playing it instead of making these posts.
