I used to think larger screens were better, until I got a 12in iBook. This thing is so light compared to my old Toshiba, that the reduced strain on my back resulted in better eyesight, for I am no longer bothered by the smalled screen.

Nobody is asking to see these companies "valuable" algorithms, which are probably trivial and obvious anyway. They're asking to see the damn specs. A driver rewrite increased scanner performance 30%? Cool. Give me the specs, and I'll write one from scratch that improves performance even more. I don't need to see the anybody else's code. If someone erased all the labels on my DVD player, I can still operate the thing if someone showed me WHERE the play button is, etc... That's all we're asking for. Not the damn DVD internals, just the buttons to press to operate the damn thing.

Have you never failed to open a Microsoft Word document in Microsoft Word? Lots of people have experienced this. This is not a "minor" problem, even if it happens only once in a while. Your disagreement with the previous poster is probably based on your different characterizations of this problem-- no need to suggest the poster can't read, lest someone might be tempted to comment on the comprehensibility of that last pragraph you wrote. I've been in an office where, after a recent MS Ofice upgrade, we couldn't open certain resumes. Our solution wasn't to suggest everyone upgrade their version of MS Office. We just told them to save their resumes using RTF, and re-submit. Other companies might just ignore the resumes without bothering to contact the applicants. This is not a minor problem.

A store's business practices are not my concern. If the store goes out of business because people keep returning products, it's still not my concern.
