Yeah, but there hasn't been a release since August 2001.

Is the project dead or stagnating or somesuch?

  2. Re:What Transpired on Telcos Play Both Sides of Telemarketing War · · Score: 1
If you simply tell them "Put this number on your do not call list" then they are obligated by law to do so and cannot call you for a year. On the other hand, screaming or attacking the person who calls you isn't constructive. It just increases the stress of that person, and, probably, yours.

The trouble with this is that sometimes they just don't care.

Last summer, I was feeling exceptionally lazy, and so I got a telemarketing job. Twelve CAD/hour, six hours a day, plus commission. Why not, right? Easy money.

    I quit after two days.

The thing is, I was in Canada, and I was calling people in the States. My list of contacts wasn't done through a computer, it was through sheets of paper with names and numbers. If someone told me to take them off the list, I crossed out their name and forgot about it. Didn't add it to a 'do not call' list, didn't delete a database entry, nothing. Other people in the office were just working off phone books for small towns.

So don't make the assumption that a 'do not call' list works, or even exists. Sure, you can try to sue them, but they'll just fold and set up a new company in a trivial amount of time. Back in business without a hitch.

Writers would not write, inventors would not invent, artists would not . So in the US Constitution, it says:

Putting aside the fact that this post was apparently lifted from kuro5hin... this idea seems somewhat flawed.

Many people seem to believe that self-interest is quite possibly the motivational force at work for productive members of society. That is to say, unless they're paid for it, writers wouldn't write, inventors wouldn't invent, etc., etc.. This is false.

There are enough examples of altruistic human behaviour that I won't bother dredging up too many examples.

Just consider the BSD license, which, if I understand correctly, doesn't place any commercial restrictions on anyone who would want to use the code. If that doesn't work for you, how about the works of ancient Greek philosophers?

I think that perhaps you are overgeneralizing.

First, you're equating all Asian cultures, which is kind of unreasonable. China does not share the same political background as Japan, for example.

Secondly, as I understand it, you're saying that every member of an Asian culture acts the same. 'They' avoid the Internet, after all. Every single one of them. Right. Yup.

Perhaps you need to re-evaluate who's trying not to understand different cultures here.
