Hey Bruce look! Another Slashdot thread having a good laugh at SCO's expense. As a leader of the Community, your suppose to chime in with your "High Road" rhetoric. I for one doubt that you have any influence over the "community" whatsoever. Let's see what you got, strawdog.
I saw the first one back in '77, it was pretty good. I saw "Empire
Strikes Back" when it came out and thought it was OK.That "Return of
the Jedi" seemed kind of cheap and cheesy, real disappointed. The whole
"Luke, I am your father" crap just didn't work for me. Episode I was
awful, period. I never did see the "Attack of the Clones" though, was
it any good? I don't think I'll see Episode III either, this space
opera already ended for me.
FYI: The first movie started at episode 4 for the purpose of creating
the illusion of a saturday matinee cliff-hanger. There really wasn't any conceived episodes before or after episode 4. The whole trilogy
myth/thing came about after the success of the first movie. The
cliff-hanger format really wasn't ideal for an extended
plot; cliff-hangers relied more on action than plot continuity. The plot
direction of "Empire Strikes Back" (Luke, I am your father) has
been a hinderance to the SW story line from that point on. The casualties:
Predictable chracter development
no further plot twists
nothing left to create an upbeat or surprising episode 3
Lucas'decision to
being faithful to a poor plot twist(Luke, I am your father) set the tempo for every eposode that followed.
Go ahead and spend your money to see this movie if you like,
but don't go in expecting much.
Nearly three-quarters of women surveyed by the industry group complained about being ignored, patronized or offended by sales people when shopping for electronics.
At least the sales staff a Fry's Electronics don't discriminate; they'll ignore you reguardless of your gender:)
Since you brought it up, what is it with Americans and their obsession with body odor? They must bathe every day. Why can't they be more like europeans and cover their ordor with cheap parfume?
bach37, you speak words of wisdom. I use Linux at home. I pondered with the game dilemma (i got kids), bought them a new nintendo game cube for less than $80 US. That is cheaper than most video cards. The darn thing can support up to 4 players. Can't imagine why games would influence anyone when it comes to choosing an OS, unless your a kid I guess.
If Apple is so pro-open source, when are they going to add Ogg Vorbis to the iPod?
I was never under the impression that Apple is pro-open source. If anything, I simply thought of them as opportunistic. I might be wrong, does anyone know of any open source contributions from Apple to the community? If they are supportive of open source, then yeah, ipod will some day support ogg. But in all likelihood, Apple will continue to act like a Microsoft wannabe(not that there's anything wrong with that).
Original post: This is the guy who refuses to follow the proper procedures laid out hundreds of years ago by the French revolutionaries (you all know what I mean), etc
Your response - I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
You should review your history! It is obviously a reference to escargo. If you cook them with butter and galic they taste like...well...um...butter and garlic. Is it clear to you now?
RIAA vs. Mob -- Summary Music Industry - business as usual, target young audience, expand control of promotion and outlets."Control the supply AND demand of 'cool'" mentality.
P2P - dot bomb technology developed for business finds popularity among the young. File swapping finds new niche. Mob rule free-for-all. Suspension of moral judgment.
RIAA - response with "cut nose off, spite face" strategy. DRM fiasco. Litigation carpet bombing. Reduction in new products. Repackaging of the dead: Cher, Ozzy, Fleetwood Mac...brilliant.
Multiple attempts at "pay-per-song" leads to the first winner: itunes - developed by a small computer manufacturer known more for it's advertising campaigns than quality products. A fad is born. Walmart, Napster, et. al. jumps into the zero profit game.
Music Industry experiences a dead-cat-bounce from recent fad and is praised for it's successful "Two Pronged" strategy.
So, does this about sums it up? Lowest form of Corporation Vs. Lowest form of Consumer. My favorite part: the term "leech". No, the RIAA doesn't use this term; it's used by those who have no sense of irony.
OSX as an upgrade for win9x on x86 hardware? Wrong platform. Thanx for another slashApple ad. You were right about other options even though OSX isn't one of them.
If it was possible to both erase and replace memories, we would have another elective procedure which would be in the same category as plastic surgery. Imagine, if you could reconstruct your memories as well as your crooked nose, enhance your childhood as well as breast size. Bad experience holding you back? Just get it augmented or deleted. Those memories of growing up under-priviledge could be replaced with a happy childhood. Who wouldn't want the advantage of living (at least recalling) a perfect life.
Oh,come on, give me a break. If you're a Linux user you should be use to this by now, get over it. Us Linux users are not a market, no one really cares about us, we are on our own. Do-it-yourself solutions is what makes us Linux users in the first place. Feel jipped, ripped-off,treated unfair if you want. If you can't accept the fact that corporations and retailers view you as a second rate free-loader, then use an OS that better suits your needs (as well as theirs). What ever happenned to that copy of Windows that came with your system anyways?
All it says is: Plugger: No approperiate application for type application/msword found!
whatever...

Well AC-IP litigator dude, thank you for your free legal advice. You bring a lot of fresh insight to this discussion as an IP litigator, not to mention credibility by posting as an AC. BWAAAHAHAHA Look everyone... It's a pretender!
True, don't underestimate the masses, but don't count on them to support an anti-DRM position either. People are funny that way. Here are two possible scenerios:
1. DRM is promoted as a means to improve quality / reduce the sky-rocketing prices. Many consumers might be under the impression that they are footing the bill for piracy both in cost as well as selection. The "masses" may actually favor DRM tech.
2. The possibility that ALL CD's are labelled as "...may include DRM technology".-- In this instance, no real information is aquired by the consumer. I find it unlikely that the content provider would be required to disclose the exact nature of the DRM technology employed. I am sure Hollywood would be more than agreeable to a "generic" anti-pirating sticker especially if all CDs and DVDs had one.
Contrary to the intent of this bill, I suspect we will end up with scenerio #2...
...in a <chortle>democracy</chortle> this is known as compromise.
This could be more than just music...it could be an on-line experience! Games, contests, chats with your favorite artists as well as downloads. Images and sounds never before experienced here.
Great opportunites for musicians and web artists can benefit everyone. yeah! Go Echo!
Alright! I've been waiting for an organization like Echo for some time now. What took so long? Welcome to the internet community, looking forward to purchasing some great tunes! Hope they use RedHat:)
Please ignore my previous post. After re-reading NineNine's post, I realized that he/she is absolutely correct and that I misunderstood. I apologize for the name calling and snide remark:(
Do you not see the hypocracy in your statement? You leech music from the entertainment industry...the so called leech does the same to you. And to think, the music industry actually targets irresponsible, unethical, and childish people like yourself. The problem with the music industry isn't piracy, it's their poor choice of a target audience.

The register has a great article on Mac World S.F. The author referred to it as snoozathon! Interesting read.
Bird of a feather... Apple is more closely aligned with MS than "alternative" OSes.
