I laugh, but one has to wonder where the distribution of the DoS attacks thereof fell to. I was on HV last night myself, and w/o warning, half the players dropped/timed out. The graph gave uncharacteristic results. I hesistate to blame this event, but the server still ran fine. Indicative of some sort of bandwidth bottoming out, or maybe Tex was just uploading one of his latest creations.
...will (1.44MB) floppy disks FINALLY be obsolete when these drives arrive?
I'm really curious. Anyone know how long the 1.44MB floppy drive has been a part of 'standard issue' perhipherals with a PC? Are there any other portions of modern hardware that could use a well-accepted replacement?
I confess, that's entirely my opinion as far as format preferences go. However, on a reasonably equipped media player, compensating for weak frequencies isn't much trouble (though you certainly don't get all the original sound back). But when I mean quality, I also mean the lower bitrates, too. Try a 64kbps OGG (roughly QL 2.00) vs. an MP3 of similar caliber. The lower the bitrate, the better-suited audio is for internet streaming.
OGG isn't perfect. v1.0 was relead just a month or so ago, and I'm certain much can be done for improving the overall efficiency of the code. It just needs a little bit of time.
This is probably some of the worst possible timing for the rigorous enforcement of the MP3 royalty fees. Consider:
-The decline of Napster-clones
-The legislation surrounding Internet radio
-The 'already-there' Microsoft WMA (for windows users)
-The presence of the OGG Vorbis format and it's superior quality (not to mention established support in popular free music players)
-The expense of portable non-CD MP3 players and their associated memory cards/sticks (the more costly portion of the product, IMHO)...it seems to me some of the more popular uses of the MP3 format are in a state of flux, while alternatives that may not have presented a definate threat to it's popularity are now in the lime-light.
Personally, it sounds like an underhanded scheme originating from the RIAA.:)

This is a good place to start. It *could* be ubiquotous, if this site were true, in the 'Big Brother' sense.

The nice part about this battery is, 'What happens if it runs out?'.
Simple. I have no idea about plants, but I imagine woodland creatures are bound to have some degree of the appropriate susbtances in them.
Gives a whole new meaning to the concept of an 'Energizer Bunny'.
