  1. Re:Thats the reason I was fired on ISP's Slapping Techs For Lending A Hand · · Score: 1

I think he was pretty clear in his post that this was one of his own customers for whome he had built a computer. He then recommended the ISP (his daytime employer) to his client. Seems silly to fire someone who sends you extra business that you may never have had.

Maybe his company has a policy against moonlighting, in which case I can see why they would fire him (not that I think such a policy is good).

    No, it's not just you.

Pay attention to the brand name at the very bottom of the remote. You can see it shifting around.

Unfortunately, not buying things from the telemarketers will not deter them. The sad fact is that telemarketing works.

If the telemarketer manages to sell it's service or product to a small percentage of it's list, then it is worth it for them to continue to do so.

In other words, even if 90% of consumers boycott their products, the other 10% make it worth it for them to continue annoying everyone.

I'm sure this has been posted before...

You can use an iPod on a PC. There are actually 2 programs that allow you to do it. I can only remember the one my girlfriend uses which is XPlay. The other program is also supposed to be pretty good.

Not to doubt the "facts" that you've presented here, but do you mind showing us some sources for these?

That way when someone asks me "Where did you hear that this is CACHE issue?"

I don't have to say "Oh. Some anonymous person on slashdot told me..."

I don't have a problem with the anonymity: it just doesn't make for a very good reference.

Nope not halucinating. Here's the link posted on slashdot one month ago:

Page 4 of the article also references the guy at Dimension. Sounds like some marketing guy at IBM decided that they need to put it back into the spotlight with the IBM marketing machine behind it.

Countries such as India are pumping out some of the best developers/etc. and these people maybe could be seen as a national resource in much the same way as gold/oil. If LDC's can develop education structures to build a skilled workforce and get help building the infrastructure then maybe it may work.

Iran tried to do the same thing in the 60's and 70's by sending many of it's brightest to the west to increase their skills/education. Problem was that many of them got used to a western life style and decided to stay in the west. Others that returned found that they couldn't continue their work on physics (for example) since the country was lacking in advanced equipment. The key seems to be the last part of your statement. Remember that building an infrastructure to many countries still means food/water as opposed to DSL connection.

Interrestingly enough, some of my family have e-mail/web access. Not sure if they can get to whitehouse.com though :)

Actually, most companies automatically record your IP when you hit their site, ftp server etc... and do some sort of measurement and analysis based on it.

CDDB is just sharing some of that info with the rest of the world, but as far as I know no one will be able to discern that you are a closet Backstreet Boys fan :)
