This sounds like April 1st news. But as real news, I'm guessing that when Gnome does return to Ubuntu as the default DE, it'll be a bit customized at least. It wouldn't be too had to create the addons to make Unity users feel a little more at home on Gnome 3.
There are two things I find unlikely about this story.
1. That Second Life is still a thing. 2. That these are actual Trump supporters.
It's just trolls getting a two-for-one deal. They get to disrupt the Bernie supporters while at the same time painting Trump supporters in a bad(worse?) light.
On mobile Microsoft has pretty much given up and support Android and iOS as well or better than Windows Mobile now now on the Server side we've already seen.Net moving fast to Linux and now the third biggest lock in application on Windows Server(AD and Exchange being bigger) is coming to Linux. With AD and Exchange being pushed more towards hosted services in the cloud, Windows' future doesn't look too bright there.
Chromebooks will stay with Atom. They're cheap, efficient enough for laptops, and perform well. Plus manufacturers can use the same base hardware for Chromebooks and cheap Windows laptops if they stick with Atom. The closest thing to "Year of ARM Laptop" will be the Surface clones running android Android.
In order to keep America safe, does anyone know where I can send my emails and phone records to until this whole misunderstanding is resolved? I'd hate for a terrorist to get me because my information was private.
I've been really impressed with my Baytrail powered Windows tablet, and this might not be a bad option to turn an old monitor into an all in one PC(it looks like Windows 8 is doable as well as Linux in general) for most tasks that aren't too intensive like gaming. Though if my tablet is any indication, the dual core version with 2GB of RAM should be able to hand Civ V to an extent.
I've been waiting for ODT editing to come to ownCloud for a while now so I could drop my last Google usage outside of search. I just wish there was a way to use it while turning off the collaborative stuff. Things seem to go wonky when you don't close a document properly sometimes.
The old mobile site wasn't really mobile, so I guess anything is better, though it's a pretty slow and heavy site it seems. It looks to be working in Firefox for Android now, that's an improvement over the last time I used the beta.
So how long until/. wraps up the new mobile site in an app wrapper and advertises a "mobile app" for iPhone and Android like seemingly every other website out there?
I thought someone would eventually come through and get some sort of Netflix working on Linux, but Silverlight working right was not at the top of my list. I was expecting either a dedicated and optimized "player" for the Android app or a port of the the ChromeOS version.
Since you may be going cross platform at the host, either VMware or VirtualBox are good options. I've personally been using VirtualBox for a while and find it quite easy to use and being free is a nice perk too. Though I understand VMware Player(the free version of VMware) has grown in a a decent general purpose VM solution for simple desktop virtualization like it sounds like you'll be doing.
I've actually been thinking about getting rid of my laptop in favor of a Transformer and keyboard dock, and this makes it much more likely. Now the biggest hurdle is waiting for someone to come out with a 12" Android tablet with a keyboard dock.
Hopefully they'll at least have a dev mode. Unless something has changed, you have to root your device and manually enable sideloading on the Nook Color to test you apps, even if you are an accepted developer.
Can't say I really care for that at all. It's not 2003 any more. Modern devices have the horsepower to rerender pages if needed. I hope there's a way to turn that off. I really don't want Amazon mucking around with my web browsing.
They should go back to a freely downloadable, but unsupported version. Compared to enterprise level support from other vendors(Unix, Windows, etc) I don't think their pricing is that bad, but an easily accessible free version with no support would alleviate the headaches of waiting for CentOS and others to keep up. Fedora is nice, but it's too far removed from the main Red Hat release and can be unstable.
Why are they trying to make amends? This is Oracle, hasn't splitting communities and driving projects into the ground been working out great for everything they got from Sun?
Lack of free firmware(I need Tomato) is the reason I'm still on 802.11g in my home. I have an WRT54G as the main router and an ASUS WL-520GU creating a wireless bridge to the living room.

The iPhone is still only 3G and their 3G network isn't going anywhere.
I wonder if this is just a bit too late. It seems that Samsung has surpassed Sony as the everywhere premium electronics brand Sony was in the 90's.
Not just poster and print ads, but in the US I've seen Chrome ads on prime time TV.
I think they're trying to wipe out the bottom of the budget market with that one.

Actually the Kindle Touch is $139 without ads(the same as the Nook Touch). It's their new low end $79 Kindle that is $109 without ads.

They're similar and in a couple years RHEL will resemble Fedora today, but by that point Fedora will be quite different too.

It seems that Google is looking at buying it too, which I'm hoping for since they're much more likely to open things up.
