I don't know what New York City you come from... In the one I know, 4th Avenue doesn't exist until around East 9th Street. =P

  3. Re:Big Fans on Beginning Of the End For PC Noise · · Score: 1

I'm going to have to agree on the big fans... I used to have a 60mm delta fan on my CPU back in my high school days. It sounded like I constantly had a hairdryer on in my computer...

I've tried nearly everything short the extreme computer enthusiasts' solutions. I have dampening mats in my case, watercooling with two radiators, and tried the "silent" fans. In my experience, the sound always creeps up one way or another, either by necessity (I had 5 HDDs, which meant I had to add more fans) or some other uncontrollable factor (turns out my water pump generated more sound than most of my other components...).

I've always overclocked my hardware and I've come to the conclusion that for people like me, there is currently no simple way to keep our rigs quiet and still get the same overclocking potential out of the hardware (without overspending $$$).

But there are some products out there that work very well for keeping the computer noise down to a minimal. There was this heatsink (Zalman) I bought for my brother's computer a few years back that used fins and a fan mount that screwed into the PCI slots' holes. You could mount a 120mm fan on it easily and it wouldn't generate much noise at all.

  4. Re:How to fix? Is a fix needed? on World of Warcraft Duping Bug Found · · Score: 1

Just because the exploit became public only recently, doesn't mean that it hasn't been around for a while. People could have been using this method for weeks, maybe even months...

If I saw the thread correctly, someone copy-pasted the instructions from one of those pay-sites which provides its members with information on how to exploit MMORPGs. So one would assume that a select few who paid for the information got a head start.

Then again, the process could have been discovered only recently... AFAIK a rollback of such a magnitude would be unprecedented (7-8 days)...

  5. Spirited Away's musical score... on Oscar Nominations (LotR, Spirited Away, and more) · · Score: 1

I felt that they should have nominated Spirited Away for the Music(Score) category. Joe Hisaishi's music is absolutely breathtaking and unforgettable. One example is when Sen travels on the train and the subtle piano piece compliment the images of vast nothingness the audience see on the screen. His music can draw out your emotions and make you feel the same loneliness that the main character is feeling. The man is a genius and is considered one of the best composers in Japan. He also wrote the pieces for Mononoke Hime, Tonari no Totori, Nausicaa and others. This man and his music should be exposed to America's ears.

  6. Re:More freakin' distractions on New Mobile Phones Showcased · · Score: 1

I can understand why bikers and other drivers would hate having the person on the wheel playing with such phones on the highway or someplace with a high concentration of people. The reality is that in Japan most of the people do not own cars AFAIK and they take the subways and trains on a daily basis. In a situation like the video screens, the high speed internet access, i-mode, games, etc. are a way to relieve the boredom. In a country like the United States, the cars and gas are way cheaper than Japan's so a larger populance owns a vehicle. Many Americans have no use for such phones. Being able to see the person you're talking to on the screen of your cell? Who needs it!
