  1. Re:Future of Unmanned Aircraft? on Inside the Joint Strike Fighter Competition · · Score: 2, Interesting

Everyone is missing the obvious. Manned vehicles are limited by their payload. namely, a human being. We have the materials for a/c to pull > 10g sustained. However, human beings tend to not like that. Elimnate the human, eliminate the need to limit the load curves on a V-n diagram. Further more, a general will be far more willing to drop $30 million behind enemy lines on a dangerous mission than $14 + a human life.

  2. Why pit them against each other? on Calculators vs. PDAs in the Classroom · · Score: 1

I would be lost without my Handsping since all my addresses, emails, games, and appointments resided in it. On the other hand, I would be lost without my TI-89 with its mathcad capabilities and matlab syntax. I dont think pda's will ever replace calcs because of the cheating capabilities. however pda's have carved themselves a niche in the world and i doubt we will see either go away for a long time.

  5. UNIX for the masses on Feasibility of Linux for Public-Access Labs? · · Score: 1

We use a UNIX based method of accessing the email system here at St. Louis University as well as a web based interface. Although most tend to enjoy the web interface more, almost all are able to utilize the UNIX interface and call up pine to read their mail. Not many seem to mind too much.
