  1. Re:My view on XTREMEprogramming on Test-Driven Development by Example · · Score: 1

It does not make any sense making two developers an xp team who do not like each other. If a manager does this than he/she is a bad manager. Generelly you should change teams quite often to ensure knowledge flow and you should never force anyone to do pair programming. Some people just can't stand it and they for sure would be less effective if forced.

  2. I don't. on Sony to Stop Producing Smaller CRTs · · Score: 1

I got a Sony VAIO notebook, a Sony mobile telephone, a Sony PS2, a Sony SuperTrinitron TV, Sony headphones and more stuff because this company really makes great products. I am not going to buy inferiour products just because of RIAA or MPAA. Also you lump together Sony Music, Sony Pictures and Sony Electronics which is just wrong. You should maybe not buy their CDs but I guess you either don't by CDs at all or you don't care who manufactures them.

  3. Re:Why ? on Umbrello 1.1 Released · · Score: 1

Besides overdesigning is much more preferable than underdesignin
I don't agree with you here. In an XP style development you can add design later as you need it. If you have overdesigned your project you will loose much more time once you find that your design does not completely do the job (and that happens in every project anyway, right?).
I do have coworkers who do stuff like defining lots of interfaces with one implementing class only or include thousands of features one might need someday. That is wasted time twice - once in the design and a second time if you have to change/refactor it.

Also UML might be useful in tiny projects as well. I use UML not much as a means for design but more for documentation. A simple class diagramm will help you so much understanding your project if you come back to it after months or even years. In larger projects where there are lots of coworkers or even external partners having class diagrams is a must IMO.

There is also an enhanced version of Argo/UML called Posseidon (http://www.gentleware.de). The Community Edition is free of charge and there are also a Standard and a Professional Edition.

  5. 'smart' tuning possibilities on Cars for Tinkerers? · · Score: 1

The smart does not have a 'electronic managed turbo engine'. The 'pulse' and 'passion' models do have a electronically managed waste gate while the waste gate in the 'pure' model is only mechanically controlled. The original gear shifting timings are not slow but the same as the average human can achieve (0.8s). The software cannot change anything here but the new models have a more powerful actuator and achieve 0.4s.
Also the more power one can get with a chip tuning comes with a high price. The guarantee is gone most of the times and the motor is more likely to blow up. This is a 599cm three cylinder motor after all which has 45/55hp originally and up to 80hp and more with chip tuning.
Yes, I do own one of those fuel powered roller-skates myself :)

  6. Re:Pain and Suffering on Review Of Upcoming Projection Keyboards · · Score: 1

I don't know for sure but the problem could be that you can't rest your hands on the keyboard. You might have to have them hovering in the air all the time since otherwise the "keyboard" can't recognize keystrokes. It is not like a touchpad because there only one finger controls the "mouse movement" and the rest usually rests besides the pad.

  7. Re:Sure, but you're told on SMS Messaging Unreliable · · Score: 1

Yeah but it's not reliable. In Germany you will get the "Message was successfully delivered" message after the sms leaves your network and not after it reached the recipient. At least that is the case with sms from Vodafone to Viag and I guess that is the same everywhere.
