  1. Re:Opt-out? on Australian Internet Filter Enters Trial Phase · · Score: 1

I am an Aussie. Just thought I could give you a local viewpoint.

Kevin Rudd did received more support after the strip-club story was "exposed", but this had more to do with objections to the invasion of K.R's privacy, rather than the type of establishment he attended. A classic muck-raking backfire.

A similar phenomenon occurred just a few days before the election. Members of the Australian Liberal Party were caught distributing pamphlets claiming that Australian Labour supported an Islamic Jihad - these dirty tactics resulted in instant karma boost for Labour - and they didn't have to do or promise a thing!

  2. Re:TV on Faith Returns to Buffy · · Score: 1

    I agree

As a dedicated non-TV watcher I have to say that the quality of content is contemptable (what passes as "news" these days is particularly worrisome). I really do think that most people today are dumber for watching it.

But all forms of media, no matter how flawed, are capable of greatness (even hollywood and the music industry ;) which is why every week I go to a mate's house and watch Buffy.

You have to be careful that your mental media filtering system doesn't become to jaded and discards quality items with the junk. - I know that a nubile blonde teenage vampire killer doesn't scan well as the premise for a TV show of worth - but JW knows what he is doing.

By the way, budget != quality. Don't ever make that mistake.
