Yes, it is a human rights violation, and not the first perpetrated by the american government against its own citizens either. Have a look at the latest Amnesty International yearly report http://web.amnesty.org/report2005/2am-index-eng before you go waving your flag the next time.
Just an update: I removed sp4 and tried installing sp3 (have sp2 on the box) with the same results: BSOD at boot telling me that ntoskrnl.exe had a paging fault.
Me too. If you let the installer back up the system you can reboot in safe mode and uninstall the pack. Otherwise, well you can always try to call your local MS support - isn't that supposed to be the great thing about choosing Microsoft over Linux?
Me too, although I don't even have to log in for the damned thing to BSOD on me. I get the login screen and after a few seconds it bluescreens with a message that ntoskrnl.dll has caused a paging fault.
But I *did* check the backup box. For the first time ever;-)
Well, immoral companies of course exist wherever immoral people do. This is not the point the op is trying to make, the point is that a large portion of the americal populace have been indoctrinated to believe that it's actually ok for compaines to act immoraly if it means they can collect a profit.
A company might be a "legal" person in the sense that the only demands placed on it under corporate law is to make a profit, but that's simplifying the matter a bit too much. As others have commented, corporations are run by people, and people don't lose their duty to act morally just because they happen to work for a certain company.
Acting morally implies that you forsake something, say profit, for "doing the right thing". If you believe that personal enrichment is more important than the lives of other human beings you are, by all definitions, acting imorally.
Coffee is what you drink if you need to stay awake. And not that crap you americans dare to call "coffee", but proper, strong coffee. It's supposed to ba BLACK, not beige for crissakes! If in doubt, drop a penny in the cup; if you can see the penny, your coffee is too weak. Soda pops will just give you a sugar rush which wears out your body faster than coffee will do. And for every cup of coffee, you drink half a litre of plain tapwater to restore your fluid balance.
You see, caffeine is water-driving, just like beer (which is the reason for hangover), which means that your body will get rid of more fluid than you drink, leading to dehydration. If your body becomes dehydrated, you'll have terrible difficulties concentrating, headaches etc (very much the same symptoms as fatigue).
So, to conclude; Coffee (without sugar) for the extra energy, and water to keep your body in balance.
I guess it's a matter of personal opinion, but this is huge news for me at least. With dual processors throughout the line, DDR memory and a faster system bus, running a rock-hard Unix and all for the price of a standard brand wintel PC, Id' say it was news that would interest the average slashdot reader. Obviously, I'm wrong:-)
Call me a troll and mod me down to Hades, but what's the thinking behind putting an announcement regarding yet another Linux mutation on the front page while the announcement regarding the new Powermacs is cooped up in the Apple section?
I don't get it. "I bought mu server a year ago and payed $1000 for the OS and now I have to pay $1000 again and it really sux0rs". Well... duh? If you bought a Windows server last year, what did you get on it? Right, Windows 2000, and what do you do if you want to upgrade to.Net server? Right, you pay, now tell me why that's not OK when the server comes from Apple. If you don't want it, don't buy it - plain and simple.
Unless you've been living under a rock for the past six months, you'd know that Jaguar was coming in August or September, and that it would cost you money. If you spent that much money on a new computer it seems odd that you didn't spend some time reading up on the mac news sites.
Jaguar is as much of an "update" to 10.1 as Windows 2000 was to NT, or XP to 2000. If you don't want the new version don't buy it. But don't steal it if you do.
In Soviet America the criminals sue YOU!

I'm sure "The Terrorists" are even more envious of your lifestyle right now. In Iran they at least get a fixed trial.
