I couldn't agree more. While i'm not familiar with YaST, i love how SUSE looks. if YaST does as much for you automatically as apt, then i'm all for it. KDE is as close to the eye candy of MacOS X. And since i couldn't agree more with you, this means you will probably be flamebaited or trolled for supporting YaDMJOS (Yet a Different Monopoly, Just Open Source), much as i did!

Karma: Positive. Wasn't Karma a White Card? What's this positive stuff?

did you even read what i was saying?

i was saying consolidate the distros, or make them more interoperable, not use "10 different distros with 10 different ways of doing the same fucking thing".

thanks for showing who is the moron. next time show some thought in your commentary.

  3. Monopoly Buster on New Antitrust Complaint Filed Against Microsoft · · Score: 3, Insightful

Wouldn't the world be better served by kde and gnome consolidating to one desktop, and all the distributions agreeing on one form of package management (my favorite being deb), and spending their money cooperating in building an unbelievably awesome linux distribution? To me that would be the best way to stop the Microsoft monopoly on the desktop market. To me as a developer, if i can pay the same amount for a tool which is as easy and full-featured to use as visual studio.net, and can have other modules installed, not having to worry about finding the deb or rpm or whatever, and worrying about dependencies, it would be much easier for many CIO's to recommend a total switch. NOTICE it doesn't have to be free, which is a fallacy many people think everything linux related should always be. i would much rather live under a monopoly of linux and open source which is supported by ibm, redhat, suse, etc..

would you rather verisign gets control of everything, and sell your name and contact information, and charge you extortionate amounts of money, or have an independent government sponsored organization run it?

all you pale skinned paranoia freaks would choose the first option, because government running things is EVIL.

i will take option number two, and go outside and live a life.

Instead of complaining about General Motors, Ford, _Insert lazy automaker here_, let's just not do any driving, and save the earth. We've got bicycles and feet and we can get places using those.

Car companies don't ow us anything. No one is forcing us to drive our cars, and if they try, we can just say no. Might cut into our lifestyle? Well no one said living according to principles is cheap. Just seems more productive than bitching about gas guzzling SUV's.

It sells. Watch the news, and note the stories they talk about.

"Woman spills coffee on self, sues restaurant"
"Man sues McDonalds because he's fat"
"Girl in MIDDLE CLASS WORKING FAMILY kidnapped two thousand miles away from you"

Since these stories sell to the public (those not smart enough to draw their own opinions), the news organizations can draw in more viewers, which means more $$$ for their advertising spots. So if a story has absolutely no relevance whatsoever than to scare people, hell, run it and watch our advertising income go up!

Under treaties like NAFTA, a company can challenge the laws of a member country, claiming that the said member country is not allowing their product to be sold within the same environment that they enjoy within their own country. I wonder if something like this *did* happen how long would it take for microsoft to buy their way into a political fight to get the australian government to do what microsoft wants.
