  1. It's a good thing for Open Source on Support Your Local ... DNUG? · · Score: 1, Informative

I think we should encourage user groups such as these instead of critisizing them. While the .NET technology is not of the same quality of what comes out of the loins of the Open Source developer community, it is a good start by MS.

By allowing the free sharing of code and information among MS developers, most of them will see the appeal that the global Open Source developer community offers.

  2. Destroying Hop-Scotch players on FBI Warns Companies About Wireless Warchalking · · Score: 0

I mean, there I was, along with my buddies from the pub playing hop-scotch, when the federales busted us for drawing lines on the sidewalk.

Also, what the fsck is a "subnet mask"?

When only law enforcement agencies are allowed to hack into wireless networks then the terrorists have already won.

I'm all for supporting the Open Source community of developers, but once in a while I need to look at pictures of hot women.

Only when we can display hot women in high quality JPEG format in our latest release of Mandrake can we withstand the stranglehold that MS has on the multimedia field.

I agree with what you wrote.

Ever since my neighbor deployed wireless, the voices in my head have been louder. Plus all my forearm air is falling off.

    Peace.

  5. Make the network Open Source? on Ricochet Bounces Back · · Score: 0

I think that they could take this so much further if they used the immense talent of the Open Source developer community.

By re-writing the TCP/IP stack they could increase transmission speeds by up to 19.2% without having to lay down any new fiber.

Only when we harness the power of Open Source can we topple giants like Verizon, AT&T and Phil's Happy ISP.

  6. Plain and simple: The FBI broke Russian law on Russian Agency Charges FBI Agent With Hacking · · Score: 0

Looking beyond how their deceived the hackers and tricked them into obtaining their login info ...

The FBI used the login info to access computers on Russian soil without the permission of their owners. That in my book is illegal. The FSB is 100% correct in issuing an arrest warrant for Schuler.

What the FBI should have done is to contact the local Russian authorities to investigate the matter further. Yes, nothing may come out of it, but that's how it works in the world of international relations.

You just don't dismiss other countries' laws because it's inconvenient. It's a two-way street. It'd be interesting to see Australian or Indian intellegence agencies cracking US computers and getting away with it.

One day everyone will be afraid to enter another country because they unknowingly may have broken a law there.

I totally see your point. I refused to do the same with my VHS collection. I do like having the enhanced audio/video of a DVD but don't feel like buying the DVD version of "The Professional", "X-Files", and "Strange Days".

    Cheers.

    - if the company does close, they may be able to sneak out a couple flat panels
    - they're trying to show potential buyers that they "care" about the customers, making it more attractive to the public (anyone who has worked on support hates the customer)

I think most people would stay for a couple of days, just to see what pans out, but beyond that?

They're efforts would be better directed in the Open Source developer community.
