  1. Musicians/Audiophiles need not apply on Computer Room Hot? · · Score: 1

I don't know about you guys, but even though my box is probably putting out an extra 30-40 db, quieting it is not an issue. Just grab one of those mid- to high-end sound systems, plug in, and start jamming. I hardly even notice the noise from the case.

  2. Re:Cy Guy's Law on Moore's Law Disputed · · Score: 1

Looks pretty accurate... However, do you think we can learn correct apostrophe usage?

  3. Re:Protect yourself and buy a good VCR (better yet on Hollywood's DRM Agenda Moving Forward · · Score: 1

If I'm not mistaken, it's the Supreme Court's job to work on a purely constitutional basis. Anyone have more detailed clarification?

  4. Re:For those who need some DRM background on Hollywood's DRM Agenda Moving Forward · · Score: 1

"How well did that work for the Soviets, eh?" That's not very analagous... We're not whining to Washington "The big companies are beating us up, make them stop!" We're trying to get the opposite. Most of us are trying to keep the government OUT of the fight altogether. And for clarification, Soviet System = Government-run everything.

  5. Breaking point on Hollywood's DRM Agenda Moving Forward · · Score: 1

I'm not worried about any of this DRM crap. I'm slightly annoyed, but that's the key. Right now, the majority of informed people are only annoyed. Anyone wanna take bets on when that majority snaps?

  6. I'm happy! on U.S. Proposes Centralized Internet Surveillance · · Score: 1

I'm not worried about this at all. If Bush and his cronies keep ignoring the economy here, there's no way he'll be back for a second term.

  7. Hard times, low budget on Tim O'Reilly Says Piracy is Progressive Taxation · · Score: 1

I'm currently stuck in a very low-budget (no money, not bad movie) situation, and I have a difficult time paying for music regularly. Given the opporotunity, I do feel that I would pay, but when you are, quote, a 'poor-ass bastard,' there's not much to be done except hope a better-paying job pops up.

  8. Re:MOD PARENT UP! on Solaris Might Become LSB-compliant · · Score: 1

Not so much dead as "doesn't show up well in text."

  9. Re:Time for OpenSource Hardware ! on LaGrande, TCPA, and Palladium · · Score: 1

After all, DRM is NOT LAW! (Well at least not until Microsoft donates $20,000 to a couple of congressional campaigns). Which brings up another way to fight it. Along with the push at hardware manufacturers, we could (either seperately or thru a *ugh* special interest group) boycott or support various campaigns based on the amounts already contributed by companies on the black/white-lists.

  10. Re:Mono-Palladium on LaGrande, TCPA, and Palladium · · Score: 1

I like my head right where it is. If 'keeping up' means 'do what everyone else is doing,' (or more accurately: 'do what the people with money want us to do') I'll go back to the starting line and strap on a metaphorical bungee cord.

  11. Re:Useful services, devil is in the details on LaGrande, TCPA, and Palladium · · Score: 1

Thanks for a sensible comment from the 'minority' here. However, you can't safely overlook the bad things that have come out of good ideas like dictatorships and such Oh well, whatever happens, I'll be watching with anything from disgust to interest. It'll be a rollercoaster no matter what happens.

  12. Re:Ha, ha! on LaGrande, TCPA, and Palladium · · Score: 1

Beautiful! It'd be just like the US government! No communication between units, mountains of red tape (metaphorically speaking, of course), pointless rules to protect the poor saps trapped under it from themselves...

  13. Not entirely on topic... on New York Times Staff Editorial Promoting Linux · · Score: 1

The Denver Post also had an editorial done by a guest about linux. I'm not sure if he's syndicated or not, but his thing was sometime last week. He was (as far as I know) accurate in his details and all the other fun stuff as well.

  14. Another Prohibition? on Bruce Perens Plans On-Stage DMCA Violation · · Score: 1

It looks to me like the 1920's again...Government cracking down on something that people enjoy because it's 'bad' and the people are rebelling in an odd manner. Interesting stuff. As I'm sure you all know, people back then would ignore the laws and make their own alcohol. While I'm not trying to compare this with alcohol, we still should do something like that. If more people like Mr. Perens pop up, there's obviously going to be more arrests, but eventually the FBI & Friends won't be able to keep up. Anybody know of conventions going on where fighting back would be appropriate?
