  1. Sound Isolating on Is the iPod Generation Going Deaf? · · Score: 1

For everyone who has their music cranked up to drown out the sound around you, I recommend some type of sound isolating ear buds. Personally I have the Shure e2c ear buds (cheap but effective). I ride a train to work and the sound can be a little deafening. Since changing to these I have moved from a 3/4-Full volume level to a 1/4-1/2 volume level. Everything is much more clear. My wife was always complaining about hearing my music while I'm wearing the standard head phones. Now she can't hear my music and I can't hear her complain.

  2. Re:DST is BS anyway.... on Impact of Daylight Savings Time Changes? · · Score: 1

I agree. I think the idea of having daylight saving time is a joke.

All of the arguments for it are ridiculous. Some say it is for the farmers. My wife was the daughter of a farmer. Farmers started their days way before the sun rose and finished after the sun set. Having daylight meant nothing to the farmer. (Why do you think John Deer puts lights on their equipment?)

For myself, growing up as a kid, I always stood on the bus stop before the sun came up. It made no difference to me if we were on DST.

Twice during the year (and for at least a month) my sleep pattern is all screwed up because I have to change my clock. I am either waking way before I need to get up or dragging my butt out of bed feeling like I need another hour of sleep. And for what, Nothing! There are no more hours of daylight. We still have the same amount of time between dawn and dusk. Saying you have more time during the day is just plain ridiculous.

DST is an out dated concept. It may have served a purpose at one time (doubtful), but now we need to just end it and move on.

And that is all I have to say about that.

  3. No hard drive and squeezing memory on Introducing Children to Computers? · · Score: 1

The first computer I ever purchased was an Amstrad 1512DD. Wow, I remember it had not one but two 5 1/4 floppy drives and no hard drive. Lots of disk swapping to say the least.

Next,I remember trying to squeeze as much memory out of my PB 386SX 16. EMM386, XMS ,Himem.sys , OH MY!

Every game had different memory requirements. I remember spending hours setting up boot disks just to get the game to start up. Sometime it would start up to the manin menu then die when you tried to play. Talk about memory management!

  4. Why not use ethanol? on Could Nuclear Power Wean the U.S. From Oil? · · Score: 1

I think ethanol would be a great alternative to our fuel problems. Here is the reason why:

    YOU CAN GROW IT!

Ethanol is made from corn. Nascar uses 100% ethanol in their cars because it burns clean (less polution) and hot (mmm more horsepower).

Currently the US Gov is paying farmers all throughout the nation to NOT grow corn on parts of their fields.

Ok, I feel better. Just a though on my part. It seems almost to easy. (Now if we would only get more cars to use ethanol)

  5. What about... on Collecting Classic Computers · · Score: 1

    an old Epson QX10.

Also have the printer Epson FX 100 , A monitor (green) Q702A , and keyboard.

Everything is in the original boxes with packing. Kept everything. Does anyone know who might want something like this?
