Personally, I have an affinity for the Zebra F-301 and the Zebra M-402 mechanical pencils.
You can have my zebra when you pry it from cold, dead hand.

We live in a captalist society and so you must expect someone to undercut you whether they do the job better or not. It's simply called competition.

Besides, this guy has shown some moxy putting forth an effort to learn more and get some experience all on his own. And now he would like some business tips. We should be supportive of any person like this.

What if this were your son?

I agree 100%. I am in a math class where the professor utilizes a program called Scientific Workbook to teach. It's a nice tool for him to use because he doesn't have to write. He just types it all out and Viola! There it is in a heartbeat. He flies through it too fast for us to copy so he just post what he types out in the class lectures on his website.

BUT! He records his voice and captures the entire lecture to a movie as well that he then burns to cd's and hands out the following day. Now these movies are slow as hell to load and the audio is pretty bad. As far as I am concerned they're just not nearly accessible and easily referred to as the posted class notes.

I appreciate his effort though. I just don't think I like video lessons. I'd prefer to wait on an interactive holographic professor.

  4. Re:Stop whining, start doing. on Project Management For Programmers? · · Score: 1

    Amen.

I worked for a somewhat successful mom-and-pop ISP for the last two years. The company had been very successful at providing networking, connectivity, and lan administration for local companies. But when it came to web-application development the owner had stars in his eyes and no idea what it took to plan out, code and test. Since I was the only web programmer there he worked me like a dog but then would bitch at me for taking too long and over budget after I had tried and explain countless times over many projects the details of what I was doing and why it was necessary or else. Needless to say I cracked after about 2 years.

Currently I am back in school and the next time I go for a job interview I will DEFINITELY question them, i.e. the managers, about their level of knowledge, working history with the developers, and expectations.

Ahh... So in geek terms, which I liken to my former job, it's when they take away the coffee maker change your permissions and cutoff your cell phone all before you get to work on a Monday morning. Then after you have gotten to work and you make it to the head/open source library you notice brown stains all over the rim cause your boss, who's a closet alcoholic, was in just before you leaving you to clean behind him so you can relieve yourself all while your idiot sys-admin is yelling at you because now he has screwed up the permissions and wants you to fix it. Right......right.... dystopian....
