    What's the name of that new Linux guy at M$? This is the kind of stuff he needs to address. Microsoft can NOT now afford to be spewing out "whitpapers" that can go right to the shreader.

    Look, there is no "brain drain" at Microsoft, they DO have some smart people working for them. So why do they produce frilly lady fluff like this? If Microsoft wants to survive, they will need to work ALONG SIDE linux, have a reallistic approach to compeating with Linux, not just shitting out paper after paper that even marginal techies like me laugh at.

    Software sales generate PROFIT. Tech support does NOT, and it costs money to boot.

    Commercial enterprises are around for ONE spacific reason: generate income for their stockholders or investers. Product is strictly secondary. Tech support is not even on the map.

    It's not necessarily a help channel, its more of a place for burnt-out admins and developers to crash.

    Stop doing marathon fantasy gaming fed by Mountain Dew, put in 8 to 10 of WORK like EVERYONE else, go home, get some sleep, and THROW AWAY THE PIZZA BOXES. Then, you will not be "burnt out" so much. Oh yes: Don't take yourself so seriously, and people will not make so much fun of you.

    You're missing his point (I think). The content here *is not* subscriber supported. The amout that /. takes in from subscribers vs M$ et al. has to be a drop in the bucket. If slash got rid of ads, they would probibly fold. The point is, you can't float a dot com on subscribers alone.

    Take newspapers: the price of the paper to the consumer is trivial. Many papers don't even charge any more. They are supported by ad money.

    On a different note, doesn't it seem like the Microsoft bunch and hangers-on spend A LOT more ad money here than Open Source?

    No, the government has forbid his to show people how to blow things up and kill people.

    The newspapers and WWW are full of people criticizing the government, very few of which are in jail. People who advicate murderous violence (you know, bombs that kill people?) have stepped over the line, and are a dnager to everyone.

    When your mother / boyfriend / child / drinking buddie get smeared all over a sidewalk, come back and blab some more on the "freedom" to blow things up.
