actually Mac OS X doesn't get it right. At least on my Macbook (and a fewothers), if it goes into "suspend to disk" when it comes back up, the trackpack "tap with 2 fingers for right-click" feature doesn't work until I disable/re-enable it in the system settings. Very strange. 6 monthes later, Apple still hasn't fixed it...
commentor "Bob" from the original article put it best:
And then, say you have a flight computer, as the above article suggests, that needs to divide by zero, and then add 100, and that's how many yards it has left till it hits the ground. x/0+100=nullity, so it has anywhere between infinity and negative infinity until it crashes. That really narrows it down, huh? Now instead of the program getting syntax error, which will quit out of the program with an error message, the program gets a logical error, as it will attempt to manipulate a totally worthless number. What will the program assume? It's infinite miles away from the earth? It's infinite miles under the surface? Somewhere in between? The program wont crash, but the plane sure as hell will. Yeah, not actually "syntax error", but the right idea. Worthless idea...But I bet he could patent it in the US =P
... or their growing hoard of other "ad supported" software/services, or the rumored "ad supported Windows." Wouldn't it be silly if you disable the ads in your free Windows OS if you could just add a "127.0.0.1 ads.microsoft.com" line to the hosts file? =P
The reason it's so big is because PS2s can read DVD-rom, but square doesn't require that their beta testers can. So they give you a bunch o' cds and load them to your hard drive. I'm pretty sure in the Final release will allow reading content off dvd.
The thing that makes me sad is that I think they say you have to be in Japan to beta test =(
Things like this make me care enough to make me stop lurking, get an account, and finally post =)
