I did something like this at my house -- except its not all wireless. It can be controlled wirelessly - which was my requirement for the project.
Components: * Wireless router * Old PIII tower running Windows XP Pro set up to boot headless * SB Live w/ digital (Coax - spdif) output * coaxial (tv) cables with RCA adapters (instant digital audio cables!) * Coaxial splitters * Drill
Set up the tower with remote desktop and hook it up to the router. This is your audio source. Connect via remote desktop to control Winamp or whatever. For an easier solution (easier to control), you could set up a shoutcast server on the tower and DJ from whatever workstation you want (laptop, whatever).
Connect coax to SPDIF out on the SB Live, then run it (with splitters, whatever) to your amps in the rest of your house (i've got two hooked up). Boom - you've got digital sound.
I suppose you could even set up a web interface for this... i haven't had the ambition (Boredom?) to do it yet.
So - the only problem here is not having the audio connections be wireless. The beauty is I can take my laptop with me around the house and control the music. One of these days i'll set up a wi-fi enabled palm to do the controlling.
Considering i'm on a student budget, i'm pretty happy with the results. I only had to drill out a couple of holes (actually just making them bigger so I could piggy back with existing TV coax.
By the way - NO, I didn't consider using Linux on the server. I haven't been able to get Linux to output digital audio yet (SB Live! SPDIF). Anybody have a solution to this? -- Sigs cause cancer.
ONE: We're STILL in Afghanistan. They have a government now. These things don't happen overnight.
TWO: You're fucking kidding me right? You think that people aren't capable of handling democracy in the middle east? So... i suppose women there aren't capable of learning, so why send them to school? Hey ya know, the status quo is working just great. They teach their kids to blow themselves up - ya everything is just fine and dandy. Even if it weren't, i'm SURE they couldn't handle freedom. I guess they don't have the "liberty gene", huh?
WOW. It baffles me that there are idiots who think like you in the world.
These days it is 'hip' and 'cool' to be anti-American. They fail to see the long term goals in Iraq. Installing a successful liberal democracy in the heart of the middle east is the only way to bring lasting peace to the region and the world. I call these people liberal conservatives.
I agree. The strategically nearsighted left is going screw us all.
No other country has sacrificed so much and given so much for complete strangers and yet you only see protestors in NYC protesting Bush's 15 billion dollar AIDs policy but you never see them protesting Europe's 0 dollar AIDs policy. You will also see them come from all over the country to protest democracy in action (the republican national convention - see this and this for an example of their "peaceful" ways) but you never see them stay just one day longer to protest the kidnapping and cold blooded murder of over 400 school children, parents and teachers in Russia by Islamic militants.
Its a real shame. And just think what that many people could get done if they decided to be useful when they get together to recite the bunk their organizers tell them. I'm thinking HUGE service project here. They complain about people in the US going without while we pursue expensive foreign policy. How about helping out here???? Seriously... these people are soo fucking hypocritical.
Somewhere in Taxachusetts, an ivory ketchup bottle tower is missing its pinko senator.
No no no... just get yourself a BA in CS, then get an MBA. This is what i'm doing... I understand CS and IT/IS because i've done it (well ok, so undergrad course work and a couple of internships doesn't constitute "doing it all", but its a good start). Now i'll be managing all of you and making MORE MONEY. Presto! A nerd who understands business and has the competencies to communicate with the rest of the world!
Well, i'm pretty sure this site must have a political agenda leaning to the left. I mean c'mon... under Bush's bio, this is what's listed for his foreign policy: "Foreign Affairs: Has asked for a received Congressional backing to attack Iraq. "
Compared to a 15 line paragraph about John Kerry's foreign policy.bio Where is Bush's position on Afghanistan, Israel, Iran, North Korea, etc etc? The guy is the freaking president, and all we get is "Has asked for a received Congressional backing to attack Iraq."?? Someone is very selective about what they choose to hear on the news, and that someone is the webmaster of this joke of a website.
I would also question the way certain questions are posed... there's a lot of rhetorical bull$hit going on here. Don't even try to convince me this is some kind of nonpartisan "let me help you decide who to vote for" public service. Propaganda Propaganda Propaganda!!
Broken promises don't upset me. I just think, why did they believe me?

Well... you can still use windows, just install Cygwin, and there you go! Perl, sox, shell scripts, whatever. Get 'er done!
