It's quite simple really. I avoid windows because I don't want to deal with Viruses, Spyware, and the general security nightmare that is known as Windows (how apropos the name is, Physical windows are easy to break, and so is the MS..product)
I don't want to have to deal with IRQs, DMAs, Addressing, Drivers, and a seemingly unstoppable _flood_ of hotfixes because MS coders can't seem to write decent code.
I don't want to deal with the cost every time I need to upgrade. I don't want to deal with a bloated registry.
I don't want to deal with swap files and systems that never seem to quiet down even if they've been idle for a day (What the hell is it DOING when nobody is using it anyway?)
I don't want to deal with SMB networks.
I don't want to deal with bloated office applications that seem to slow down the entire system every time I change the font size.
I don't want to deal with activating my system everytime I upgrade a minor hardware component.
I don't want to deal with windows... I don't want to deal with Linux either for that matter, but that's a different story.
I'm not familiar with the area, but you can MUX a handful of Ts together I suppose. If your still in the 0-mile area of a provider, that might not be too horribly expensive. I don't know what Ts cost out there tho.
If you don't need more'n about 10Mbps, this might work. I think the most I've ever seen MUX'd is 8 Ts.
I hate to say this, but "If thousands of people were doing this, they'd eventually just give up" isn't a valid argument.
Thousands of people use drugs every year, and they haven't given up arresting these people.
Make these things like works of art. Clear plastic, flourine "trickling" down the backside of the LCD.... Ala-Portable Cray.
Course, I guess enclosing the flourine in a plexiglas container like the backside of the screen would kind of hinder the liquid's ability to act as a heat exchange...
... that it'll look or act a lot like OS X? I'm thinking that perhaps M$ got a scare from Apple's new OS and the technology behind it (Quartz, darwin subsystem, etc) and thought "Hmm.."
I somehow envison a 'dock-like' thing in Longhorn, complete with bouncy icons and little poofs of smoke.
