Was a contract signed, which made it clear that it is the provider's responsibility to perform backups of your email, and reimburse you if they lose any of your data?
Like everything else in life, only you can ultimately be responsible for such things.
There's nothing magical or broken about the Ubuntu branch of apt, you can put in a zillion repositories into sources.list and use apt pinning (see apt_preferences(5) and apt-get --target-release) as usual, if you really want to.
You do what you would do on Windows: build and distribute QT4, and other libraries you use, yourself. Either link to them statically, or ship them in/usr/lib/mypackage and use LD_LIBRARY_PATH at runtime.
The bible doesnt say "the earth is 6000 years old". However, you can add up all the periods of time that it mentions (example) and come up with a total of ~6000 years.
True, true, and true. But the courts still came down in favour of EULAs in ProCD v. Zeidenberg, Microsoft v. Harmony Computers (no reference, sorry) and Novel vs Network Trade Center. It would still be nice to have something on this dated later than 1996 though.

The way you complained about every directory opening in a different window implied that you wanted to use the KDE/Windows style browser interface, where you get one window that acts like a web browser, browsing through the directories you double click. GNOME's default is the 'spacial' interface that acts like the classic Mac OS.

But as soon as people start designing replacements that aren't 100% emulations of MS products, other people turn around and say, "Open source will never replace Microsoft because people don't want to spend three minutes learning how to do things in a new and better way"...
Yes but try explaining to a Mundane how DNS actually works, that DNS is not "The Interweb" and how we all share a common root domain through convention and not necessity... good fucking luck.
So what are they supported by? If the use of a work is not an exclusive right (which it is not according to 17 USC 106) then why does anyone pay any heed to EULAs at all?
In fact, DJB has a Software user's right's page that goes into this issue. However the most recent case it references is 1992... does any one know of a similar page with more up to date information?
Again, that is not what the license says. The license says that the client libraries are under the GPL. Therefore, if you are distributing an application that uses the client libraries, your choices are: GPL it, use another MySQL-approved F/OSS license, or purchase a commercial license from MySQL.
Read your electricity meter, turn the PC off for an hour (oh no!), read the meter again, establish a baseline. Power up the PC for an hour, take another reading, and you can work out the about of power your PC draws. Make sure you don't turn anything else on or off while doing the test--you might want to unplug devices with thermostats (fridge/freezer) while you do it.
A better way is to get one of those little device that sit in between a device and the wall socket; they can measure the current power usage, and count the total energy consumed since a counter was reset.
Or, if you are an ITMS user, you are stuck with the iPod.

But all DRM is shit... the encryption key is given to the very person that the message is being protected from... it makes no sense!
FTY, ~/.gnomerc is sourced during login, so you can put any per-user environment stuff in there if you want.

No, it's bullshit. Marketing departments basically pull the numbers for contrast ratio out of their collective arse.

Won't they get it back if they buy Eolas?

While you are right in wanting to avoid ebay shite, one has to wonder how on earth any music was produced at all, 5 years ago...
