There are shades of gray in engineering too. It is so much easier to build something 90% and overkill the the rest than to design something right on the edge at close to 100%. We saw this with allied designs vs. German designs. Is that BMW really worth it to get that extra 5%? I will leave that answer to others but I think except for the uni-bomber and OBL, not too many of these bomb makers even went to high school. When you have all kinds of left over cold war weapons laying around in your country, it's not that hard to build an IED because you already have the explosives. In the US ammonium nitrate and nitro-methane is available too.
--There are more cases of passengers stopping lunatics on planes than there are of TSA stopping lunatics from getting on planes.--
I would like to see some data on that. The ones passengers stop always gets news while the rest don't. Did you know explosives can be smuggled in the same was as drugs and only a dog or a cavity search can find that and it has already been tried on a Saudi prince so yeah those guys were probably just following their rules and want to keep their jobs as well. So I wouldn't be so quick to judge. Sorry, I can't take up for SJ on that one. If he would have declared them from the start he could have probably took them to CA where they are banned anyhow. It makes the whole story suspect with me.
They are kinda junk anyhow. I wonder if this story is true? A guy that can make a company wildly succeed in this climate but is a prick over pieces of junk. The problem would have been the same here as in Japan. The whole thing doesn't make sense but what the heck not much else does either these days.
I think what is really making FB work is it's marketing potential. You can advertise there and get a lot of bang for your buck. They are going to make money doing that for sure. We are in a cycle now where people want closed systems. This will change of course when everyone has that but it goes in cycles. FB has 5 more years.
--This law, as with well over half of Chinese law, has only one purpose. To ensure that no one may exist in a fully legal state within the borders of China. Seriously. You can't. It is not actually possible to complete all the legal requirements to exist as a citizen, a foreigner or a company in China without committing crimes in other areas of the countries laws.--
How is this different from the US? In the state of Virginia a worker under 18 can't be allowed to use a box cutter. Did you know that? I didn't either and I bet there is more too.
The Plantronics was designed for space plus it looks like it's there unlike a jawjacker. So there you go put a space helmet on (noise canceler) and then strap on a Plantronics headset and you could even use the rest of the spacesuit to eliminate the need to go to the bathroom thereby getting more production. AND...best of all it would look cool.
Yeah, we'll lets think about software patents for a minute....Why? It's totally insane and so is this. Yep, the US is going down the tubes without anyone else left. OK we will have a depression followed by global war. The human race cannot stand another world war so we need to get our stuff together and get rid of nonsense like this.

Apparently, this is the norm. Get ready to be self sufficient because this will not last long.
Designing a simple game for a cell phone that might sell for a couple bucks being a winner may also be 1000 to 1 but at least it doesn't take an army to do.
You know what, we have a Cisco Pix from 2000 that's actually stopping up our fiber connection to the net and it's noticeable even if you only have 1 machine hooked up, you still don't ever get close to even half of 100 meg down but you do get more than 10 up which is the providers limit. I would bet it's that and the switch. It makes you want to hook the whole place up to 220V and be done.
You know there are two types of engineers in this world.
Civil Engineers build things.
Mechanical Engineers tear them down and we all know the best way to do that.

He wouldn't need a plane.
Isn't LSD just a for of crystallized carbon? It's sounds like that's what they really found by the name.

It was meant to be a joke. Stupid mods.

Obviously, your comparing apples and oranges. 500 million plus is a strong barrier. Google could have owned this and maybe still can.
You DID sign up for Facebook when you signed up for /.
--Depending on jurisdiction it should be under 25k, but it also is loaded towards the small guy (you).--
They would laugh that off. A bunch of you CC guys need to go after them.
Since when was BoingBoing tech savy?
It mus have be written by Sun Tzu? Sounds like a Chinese game or something, Wooooo
I've lost some sleep already. Google is just not doing things right as before.
It looks like on of those weather graphs showing a storm is brewing.

When all else fails use a hammer.
