America.. ok.. it may be decent.. but the best??? minors getting the death-penalty, spawners of microsoft. yup. The best. Never mind what other countries think. Don't say the US is the best until you've seen all other contenders. (ever BEEN to the netherlands? germany? china? If not, then you are making the same mistake you accuse others of). BTW.. those immigration figures you talk about.. is that the plain number of immigrants? number of immigrants related to landsize? current population? It just doesn't say much. It's statistics. Oh.. just for the record, I don't want to live in the US with its violations of human rights and pompous, selfrighteous world-police attitude. Now go ahead and flame me.

P.S. Did you know that the United States is the only country in the world that has not ratified the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child? Including China and all the other big bad red commie states?
But in the real world I don't shoot people. It makes a nice change. Adopting VR does not mean the exclusion of RL. It's just a past-time, more or less the same as reading a book. I do walk outside regularly, but not all the time. I want to do other things to, and disembowling computergraphics is fun.
Suspension of an object the density of water in a gas is actually doable, I think Xenon is heavy enough. mix it with oxygen for breathability, and you don't even need a breathing apparatus. Some guy calling himself Daedalus actually thought up an upside-down swimming pool using this idea. Then again, he had more silly ideas (that were all theoretically sound, but in practice not very useful) Germans may remember the guy, he used to be on german TV (I think "Kopfball")
yup, was a neat little thing that indeed ran on just about anything. It was (is?) small, fitted on 1 disk, with some room to include a simple mud-client (strictly not a client, was just a TSR wrapper around telnet that provided triggering and key-definition options beyond those possible in telnet). We used to run it on the Uni here, when we didn't have an account. it also included ppp, and ofcourse telnet and ftp. Apparently the guy who made it got into contact with Caldera, who were going to incorporate it in OpenDos, but I don't know if that ever got through. It did look quite decent though, and I used it quite a bit. I still have an old (beta)version lying around somewhere on my old dos-box.
Ah yes.. the old "You pay for the video, marketing blah blah blah".. Guess what, I don't watch music videos, I wanna pay for the sound. CDs here are WAY to expensive, fl 44,- (about 24-25 US$). the industry, when CD's came out priced CD's at fl40, while sayin g quite loudly that prices WOULD go down. Guess what.. they didn't. Then came so-called "grey import", CDs bought in other countries legally and sold in normal recordstores. The industry killed it, grey import of CD's is now illegal, even though everyone got paid for this.. the record companies, the artists, everyone. grey import CDs commonly cost fl 25 when they were stuill allowed. now suddenly there is the threat of MP3, and how does the industry react? suddenly the price of CDs CAN go down. down to fl 35. We've been had enough by the music mafia. I say copy all you like, they have made profits to live on for the next 137 years.
WW2 and the current situation are not even remotely related. spying on one's opponents in a war is normal, and was directed specifically at those countries in war. Now echelon is used to spy on good people who are even supposed to be allies. If I as a person would do this to my friends, I'd soon have none left. And you wonder why people dislike the US... If you encourage this, do not be surprised if in 10 years the US is despised all over the world by every single country. But hey.. you don't care, you might have caught 1 terrorist in all those years...

It seems to me your problem isn't cybersquatting (You are involved in a non-profit org, not a commercial venture) but rather the content of the site which you state is simply not true. I'd say go ahead and sue them for spreading false information, your organisation chose a.org site (a good choice IMO) and there is no reason whatsoever to dispute the domainname.
Street names can be anything, from Rolling Stones-street (yes, it exists. It's somewhere in Almere, NL) to Baker street. The rolling stones don't live in rolling stones-street, and not everyone who lives on baker street is a baker. Also I would think this doesn't fall under the squatting law since this states that you are using the domain-name to make money off the name. You're not, you're legitimately using the domain. maybe we should just get rid of IPnames altogether. I just wish people would get a clue. if you wanna find a phonenumber, you get a phonebook. But on the web this seems unnatural to some people. On a sidenote.. have there been battles like this about phone-numbers (something like 1-800-CALLME) ? It would not be that strange if someone's phonenumber would resolve to something like 0186-COMPAQ.. I think this would be comparable..
>you'd think a US trained Defense force would be smarter than that.
Actually, I think they acted right. Would you prefer having them shoot at surrendering parties? I'm quite sure that would have a far more disastrous effect. Most white flags are genuine, not some kind of hoax. Shooting at them would only encourage far worse atrocities.
Ofcourse, with a trick like that the Iraqis in question didn't leave their opponents any choice but to reduce them to really really small pieces. For sure SOMEBODY was going to be obliterated, and this time I think the americans (or whoever else it was) were absolutely right. Not that they had a choice..
Playing at war and/or violence is a thing of all ages, not just the computer-age. Do you seriously think that quake et al. were the first games based on war, siege or violence? think again. Most ball-sports are based either on a siege (baseball, cricket) where one party must defend the 'castle' and the other party tries to invade. Or it's based on 2 parties in a war (football, rugby, am. football, and even tennis). It's nothing new, and probably not going to change any time soon. but is it really bad? players don't usually try to kill eachother in the game, just like most people who play quake don't try to kill their neighbours. playing war and actually engaging in it are 2 very different things.
Yup, America is the saint of all countries, protector of right and wrong. They are right to act as the police for the world, for their righteousness places them above the law. Pfft.. the US is as much a thug as most countries, perhaps more.
well.. that would be nice.. slashdot at Cebit. or another place.. preferably somewhere in the netherlands. I'll even try and get you to pronounce Grolsch right.. just stay away from that ditchwater named heineken...
a national government failed to impose its will on an in essence international organization. As it should be. a national government can control institutions in their country, but not outside.
actually, I think the punishment makes them look MORE stupid.. a LOT more.
