I use xwin32 regularly over a time warner cable modem connection. I run a win 2k on my machine. I find xwin32 (running with FSECURE SSH tunnelling) with single window (xterm window) ismuch faster than cygwin. The single xterm window has display set to your local machine. So you can run any x app on your machine. You can even alt-tab between the xapps.
