I think Caldera stood a good chance to win a much larger settlement and to send Microsoft an important lesson: They will be held accountable to past illegal activities. I guess in their eyes that $150 million is better than nothing, considering what they paid for Dr-DOS.
dentistry has changed since the 50's. unfortunately, no one told you. starchy foods, like chips, pretzels, breads, in other words, things that stay in your mouth and attract bacteria, are found to be the root (no pun intended) of tooth decay.
sugary foods like candy actually don't stay around in your mouth that long.
What the hell does he do for your company that he's rewarded with $43 million worth of stock. I know he's an Open Source evangelist, but $43 million ?!?!
Peter Parker is the geek hero. A brainy kid endowed with super powers. How many of us have dreamed about that ? I used to love reading Spider Man comics, until my gf told me it wasn't cool:(
My Inspiron (bought in Jan/98) has been falling apart for years, too. Had to get new LCD, floppy driver, keyboard, etc. They're usually good with getting you a new part.
It seems Dell uses standard parts because I've never had a problem running Linux. Glad to see them officially support Linux on the laptops, though.
I haven't seen the movie either, but I think the people who were disappointed in the movie are probably more vocal than those who enjoyed it. Also, cynicism is much more rampant now than it was when the first movie came out. I think some people just enjoy knocking something for the hell of it.
From the way Lucas made and marketed the film, it appears his primary audience was adolescents. The knocks about Jar-Jar coming from 30-50 year old adults seems misplaced, at least to me. They seem almost offended that Lucas tried to make TPM an event for today's kids, almost forgetting that's exactly what he did for them 20 years ago.
Now if it were coming out on DVD with all sorts of bonuses and commentary and so on, i would happily fork over 15, 20, even 30 bucks for it, and so would alot of other/.ers and SW fans in general.
Lucas is the master of hype. He is going to make sure that the release of the Star Wars saga on DVD is a spectacular event. I'm sure there will be content on there from even the first movie that no one has ever seen before. People will flock to the stores.
There you have it. Now I hope you people stop whining and get off the man's back. He is not trying to milk you for an extra buck. The man is a billionaire. He doesn't need an extra buck. He fancies himself as an artist, and whether you agree with his assessment, Star Wars is his baby and he wants to show it in the best light possible. DVD allows for such creative license so let him exercise it.
I hope we are through with these TPM DVD stories for a while.
I agree with a lot of what you've said. I just hope that people become more knowledgable about how Open Source really works so they can temper their expectations accordingly. Mozilla has garnerned a lot of negative news because of the delay in putting out a product (regardless of the fact that they had to start over with a new code base midway through the project), jwz quitting on them and casting his own negative cloud over the project, etc. Future projects will suffer the same negative perceptions if the reality of Open Source isn't promulgated correctly.
I guess the people who started the Mozilla project weren't aware of Brook's law.
It is ironic that Brook's law seems to take a lot of starch out of the percieved benefits of open sourcing a project, especially a project that already has had a head start. We're seeing a lot of companies throwing code on the altar of Open Source but I wonder, based on Brook's law, if much will come out of it. Will we be relegated to a bunch of projects running late like Mozilla?
Until you can prove 100% without a shadow of a doubt that something is perfect, it's flawed to some degree.
huh? I'm not a mathemetician. I'm just looking for specific areas where it's functionality can be improved. I assume that if someone says a product is flawed they have metrics to support their claim. Your comment doesn't make much sense.
why is it flawed? I know zilch about the stack but just stating that someone has a serious misconception about it for feeling that way, but not stating supporting reasons doesn't make you look knowledgeable. It just makes you look opinionated. And you know what every one says about opinions.
what Alan Cox thinks about John Carmack thinking about rewriting the Linux stack. I thought Alan Cox was the man in that area? I guess he wouldn't mind John's input but the statement in the linked article seems to imply that John thinks the Linux IP stack is flawed.
Oh, so now I'm a liberal because I don't like GW Bush? That's a good one. I plan on voting for a true Republican. Not someone the media and industrial oligarchy tells me to vote for.
The only thing that would make my heart feel better is GW Bush's imminent death. If he were to contract meningitis and pass, I wouldn't even watch the press conference.
GW Bush's quote was in the context of trying to force someone to shut down a parody website. Parody is a protected freedom. That is what I referred to. I don't understand why you felt the need to give a juvenile dissertation on freedom. The questions you raise sound as if they were asked by a 7 year old.
heh. funny you admonish me for making a soundbite, yet you say nothing about the boobs who walk around with the WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) paraphenilia (sp?) in an attempt to impress me with their Christianity.
You still didn't address the callousness of GW Bush mocking a woman condemned to die. Was that part of his official duties as well?
GW's father may have been a good man. GW jr is an an opportunist riding his pop's coattails.

is there anyone semi-intelligent to answer this?
my laptop came with a 3Com modem. It's not a winmodem. Worked like a charm with Linux.
hah. it's funny that this post is moderated as redundant, yet the only other post that makes a similar comment was posted after this comment.
Moderators, redundant should be used after analyzing when the post was made. Not where it shows up in your customized page.

the PR people at Caldera Systems e-mailed me with the news...
Looks like our little boy Hemos is being recognized as a mover and shaker in the tech news business. *sniff*

This isn't exactly Dick Tracyesque, but I guess it'll do.
